I'm a big fan of this genre. Nothing quite as relaxing as getting tucked into a quality book that captures the imagination.

Currently I'm reading the Seventh book, The Crown of Swords, in the esteemed 'Eye of the World,' series by Robert Jordan. It makes for fantastic reading. I'm sure some of you guys out there have either heard of this series, or even read them.

Another brilliant series worth reading is the Raymond E Feist, 'Riftwar Saga.' Whilst that's not actually the name of the series for the whole lot (seeing as there's probably a good 20 books relating to the one same story line, broken up in groups on 3 or 4) it is however the name of the first series of his books. Magician, the actual first book of the first mini-series, is the best book I've ever read.

I suggest people who enjoy a good imagination-gripping read get right on those two bandwagons.

* Note both series's aren't even finished yet. Unfortunately for me the latest book from Raymond E Feist has just come out, whilst I'm mid-way though the Jordan series. Jordan himself passed away last year, and I think his wife is taking up the last book(s)? That doesn't bode too well for mine.

EDIT: I'm not too sure where this thread should be... Here, Media and Entertainment or Lifestyle?

I find them a little boring nowadays. The publishing houses have decided that fantasy is pretty much it and it`s really quite difficult to get good science fiction anymore. There is just too much rubbish out there.

However - the very best fantasy i`ve ever read is Katherine Kerr`s Deverry series. Just stunning stuff. I also really liked Margaret weis and Tracey hickmans Death Gate series.

may I make a suggestion for fantasy series books.

The William Horwood Duncton series

The first trilogy consists of:
Duncton Wood (1980)
Duncton Quest (1988)
Duncton Found (1989)

The second trilogy consists of:
Duncton Tales (1991)
Duncton Rising (1992)
Duncton Stone (1993)

I'm not a fan of the fantasy genre. It's just all so derivative and inbread. You would think that with a title as broad at 'fantasy' that there would be a lot more variety in the genre, but it's all the same.

I did read a lot of fantasy in high school, and enjoyed it, but you can only read the same story so many times.
