I think the Freako has a thing for Matthew Stokes, was reading a few of last years letters and he mentions him every chance he gets, and sure enought he mentions hims again first up this year...

Stokes is the ultimate March champion. Kills it every preseason. Gets more licence to do what he wants and is often playing in a team that wins by 10 goals, of which he is a beneficiary of.

Last year IIRC he had a NAB game where he had 30+ touches and 5 goals. Nearly had similar stats in week 1 of the NAB Cup, so thats why Freako loves him.

I am a big believer in ignoring stats in the preseason anyway. They are mostly very misleading. The main thing is to see who is fit & how rookies look. If you are using pre-season form as a basis of including players then best of luck - its a 50/50 strike rate there. Dyson & Nicoski were great examples last year of pre-season hype dictating peoples choices & I am all for that because it will sink a lot of teams.

The number one thing is being able to have an eye for talent. Then see the games for yourself (this is tough especially NAB challenge games). With rookies you really only need to see them get 5 or 6 touches in different situations to be able to decide if they are ready for AFL this year.

I have seen a number of games this year where I have seen a lot to like about a few players & then see the stats showing they were very average - I would rather trust my own judgement than stats or some poster pumping the tyres up on players who are really spuds. Once again there has been plenty of this sort of excitement about a number of players some I agree & some I definitely don't.

If you think you know footy then back your judgement not others & if you do you will go OK. I don't see the fun in picking players suggested in the HUN or on here or a newsletter, why not just hit the random fill button. All this info is great for those who are only half interested or don't know footy that well so it is excellent source of info for them to get involved - that is why supercoach has so many registered.

But don't forget he does this with Steve Johnson not in the main team. Chapman has also been playing a lot of midfield minutes allowing Stokes to be the dominant man.

Check out Saturday nights games when both Chapman and Johnson will be playing and watch Stokes's numbers go down.

By no means am I talking him up. I don't even have him.

Just explaining why people might think Freako has a thing for Stokes and its simply because we only get his email in the preseason and its when Stokes shines the most.

BUMP

Thats right folks its that time of week once again.

Interesting email. Most impressed with Liam Anthony and Nick Suban. And didn't realise Sidebottom had only played 52% game time. Makes his game last week even more impressive.

Your thoughts?

Any chance of a Supercoach version? There was one last year that was downloadable off the actual supercoach site.

I think they'd do another one. I do remember that I didn't find the supercoach version until the day before or the day of lockout last year. So maybe it'll come out next Wednesday.

I just found the supercoach version and to be honest it dosen't give much away at all.

My clue: It's not hard at all to find

Happy hunting

So Kurt Tippett in week 3 scored 133 points from a DT score of 53?
And Tony Armstrong scored 103 points from a DT score of 40?

That's 2 of the first 4 players in the spreadsheet, am I wrong to have concerns?
We played Box Hill, every Crow scored massive it seems.

is it because of the way the two different scores work? DT scores in NAB cup will be less than usual because players accumulate less possessions in the shorter games. SC scores get skewed to fill out a certain overall total for the game (each game has around the same total SC score), so some players will get more SC points for less possessions than they usually would.

Good point - I checked Dal Santo as he is the benchmark, and he did score 110 from 50ish points a year ago so it is potentially possible, just stretching the realms of possibility quite a bit.

A few of the prices are wrong (Cousins is $506k) but it looks like a very handy resource.

Spot on, couldn't agree more, just like Kevin Sheady and the HS... They create a game of strategy only to want to tell everyone the bloody answers...idiots... Surely there are betters ways than this to promote SC.

Strategy and trading is the key...you can put a player in your side based on what someone else tells you but without investing your own time into that decision it is almost pointless...eg if I put Anthony and Petrenko in my side based on this thread only it makes no sense without knowing how they both fit into my team with regard to trading for the year and how they will effect other picks...etc...if it was this easy then just go and choose the best side you see from posted teams and good luck.

I actually like others being told who to pick...like the little black book etc...afterall a major key is your first and second year players...I can tell you who to put in your midfield but do you choose 5, 4, 3 or 2 and who are they and why?

Don't worry about being told who to put in...it makes little difference.
