Club Mgmt. Farewell Adidas

So lost amongst the hustle and the bustle is the fact that 2016 sees us say goodbye to Adidas and hello to ISC on a great big Tom Boyd style 7 million dollar deal over 7 years, and they've already given us a little sneaky when they dropped photos of the membership packs.

A look around the league sees ISC already sponsor Freo, Port, Sydney, Geelong, GWS and the Saints, and my take is that we're going to be alright in regards to actual guernseys (the saturation of the colours and the cuts look really solid overall) but the off field wear tends to vary pretty wildly, and we lose that adidas cache that we all love so much.

I don't know about that to be honest. If you want to build a big brand, then the type of sponsorships are important. No matter what the on field guernsey looks like, it's the off-field apparel that gets the money. Most people would rather wear Adidas over ISC. Head off to Bourke Street to the Adidas store. People will prefer to wear the adidas brand due to its popularity that coincides with other major football teams around the world. Don't look at the hardcore supporters. They'll get whatever and wear whatever. Look at the bandwagoners and those with a mild interest. You are more likely to see them buy products with Adidas on them than ISC.

Hawthorn's Audi sponsorship may not be the biggest deal (no idea if it is), but it certainly helps build their brand.

But I guess we've been doing it for a while now. Money is too important for Essendon than brand and long term partnership with sponsors. Why don't Essendon think long term?

Etihad > MCG
Switching sponsorships every so often > building a strong partnership with a quality sponsor.

If you look at the saints off field stuff in particular some of it looks genuinely horrendous. Hopefully ours looks a little better.
