I know, another Ablett thread. There doesn't seem to be any for what will be his last game
One of the greatest players we have seen.
I think the talent was there from the start. in his first season he had a 68% contested possession rate to go with his 10 goals. He was a slow to start, taking over 100 games before he got his first 30 disposal game. But pre 2007 was one of the best small forwards in the league.
A kick in the arse in 2007 led to a period of dominance that included 5 X MVP
2 Brownlow's but could have won 5
For, what separates himself from the other great midfielders in the AFL era is his ball use. Exceptional on both feet and his ability to get his hands free in close for a hand ball is right up there as well. Beautifully balanced player, strong through that hips and in his prime years was nearly impossible to tackle. Teams were told to corral him rather than tackle due to his power and agility.

He has had a rough couple of years, with his son struggling with health issues and the passing of his sister.
All the best in retirement Gary

Cracking the code: How study took Gary Ablett Jr from talented footballer to AFL great
After almost two decades of remarkable football, Gary Ablett Jnr is set to play his final AFL game in Saturday's grand final. The Geelong hero conquered myriad pressures, as Russell Jackson explains.
He has had a rough couple of years, with his son struggling with health issues and the passing of his sister.
