Remember watching him at Perth back in 2005. His athleticism and disposal stood out even back then.

He was such a gun in his prime. Mastered the intercept mark and was also a weapon coming out of the backline.

Feel like he hasn’t really been the same since he did the hammy injury against Richmond in that awful Friday night game over here back in 2015. But still found away to contribute.

All the best!

Can't find it anywhere but the moment I knew he was going to be special was that great Derby in 2006 (Hase game winner) when as a scrawny bloke, more hair than man, he won a pivotal contest against 2 Eagles on the wing that from memory led to a goal.

I'll miss him and his sidestep greatly.

EDIT: Going through Google and I can find hardly any photos of him with those long curls of his youth. Did find this one which was good though. Their debut season:

Yeah that photo of Johnno and DP didn't make me tear up. Not even a little bit

I'M NOT CRYING - YOU'RE CRYING

Absolute Freo legend. Instrumental in our push for a flag in 2013. AA that year. Honest trying. When his body was right was silky AF and even wound back the clock and sold some candy in games this year

Was this the iconic game where Freo rolled the Cats at their home ground, Geelong's first loss at home home for like 10 years?

Also the game where Jeffrey had to go off at quarter time because he got hypothermia?

These jumpers were also sick, classic 'win ones you shouldn't, lose the ones you shouldn't' era Dockers.

The year after I believe, his second season.

Very close to my favourite ever Docker. First time I saw him play I thought, gee this kids got some game, shame he's so slow.
Slow the same way Mundy is slow, rarely could anyone lay a glove on him.

The things I rated most highly about him were little things like his ability to paddle the ground-ball like its round, or just give it a deft little tap to advantage, or wait till exactly the right second to just nudge the bloke next to him, the little things that only the players who really see the game unfolding a few seconds ahead see.

You're a legend MJ. You and Rodger Hayden are my favourite Docker defenders.

Here’s my Johno story:

A couple of years back I took my young Freo mad nephew to an open training session and he was desperate to meet Sandi and get his autograph. After waiting ages Sandi walked straight past him and didn’t seems to notice him at all.

The kid was devastated, but Johno was close by, saw this wandered over and spent a good few minutes talking to him, signing his jumper and doing some handballs etc. Johno then wandered over and spoke to Sandi, pointing out what had happened and Sandi came over and apologised and did the righty.

The kid still talks about this and to this day grateful to Johno. Champion bloke and great servant of the club. :thumbsu:

True Johnno story.

My missus and I were at St John God i Subiaco for a check up of our daughter who at the time was about 18 weeks or so.

Anyways the Obstetrician we see is a massive freo fan and I always wear my Freo gear when we go. This particular time though my gear was dirty and i didnt wear it.

My missus goes to the toilet before we leave as its a long drive home. So Im standing there waiting and I look up and who do I see walk past me. Micheal Flipping Johnson. There I am mouth agape standing silently as he walks by with his doctor.

The only words that I could get to come out of my mouth were the following " Micheal, I love you man." He kinda turned his head and looked at me funny gave a wave and kept walking.

Good times

Agree completely, I forgot how sublime Rodger’s skills were.
