It has just been announced at a press conference that Carlton will no longer play games at Optus Oval as of 2006 (officially) We will play one farewell game there next year with 6 at the Dome and 4 at the G

The deal involves split home games for Carlton - 6 at TD and 5 at The G from 2006 onwards and a $15m revamp for Optus to a state of the art shared training facility.

Sad indeed but necessary I think. PP used to be our ace in the hole as we were the only landlord club in the comp and it gave us a lot of bargaining power. The AFL in an effort to get us out of there did a bit of unflattering fixturing and then the networks decided to leave us out of FTA scheduling as well. No home sponsor and hey presto, we are forced out.

Having said that, with a 32k membership and plenty of latent support, there is no excuse for 17k crowds. We are a fickle lot at times and must wear some of the blame.

When you look at the blues they are a young side, if change needs to happen now is probably as good a time as any. It will be really sad to see Princes Park go as it has been home for a lot of years. :( Maybe a wake after the last game is played in rememberance of all the great times and wins that have occured over the years. There is much to celebrate. :)

Im glad we play a farewell game, I broke my leg so I was a little sad that I may not have made it to the Melbourne game...

I thought that we could have played interstate clubs at Optus... we could turn it into a high class training facility for all clubs and play or 3-4 games a year there.. against Freo, West Coast, Port and Adelaide... and maybe Sydney/Brisbane at TD.

O well...

It's been reported that they would not be granted the funds to develop it into a training facility if games were still played.

Im ********ed off we didnt go straight for the 'g' apart from 2006 with commonwealth games it will be a fantastic venue, holding 100k compared to the t.d which doesnt suit our playing which only holds 50k.

No more wins like the weekend in tough conditions which we play well in .... had we played the bummers at t.d i think we would have got done.

Time for that petition, EGM and board spill. Hopefully the future shows that todays announcement was a waste of Graham Smorgans time.
Geez, this is hardly the same as collecting our first ever win, millions of dollars and debt and systematic rorting of the cap that got Elliott ousted.

Do we spill the board every single time something happens that our non-business minds can't grasp?

I wanted to keep Princes Park but I want to keep the club more. We need sponsors, we need free to air coverage and we need to market our image to capitalise on latent support.

Some have let the voting power in the previous board change go to their heads and are not thinking through the issues.

Sad to see the ground go, but it's necessary to move not only to ensure our survival but to proclaim our spot as a power off-field we've held for so many decades until now.

PP gave me so many great memories, but those supporters who do not want to move must think logically rather than be blinded by their emotions.

we played essendon at the MCG....
we will still be playing essendon at the MCG....
in fact we will be playing 5 home games at the MCG...
plus away games at the ground.
Why do we need to play at a 100k seat stadium against the interstate sides, or the Bulldogs? or the Kangaroos? or Melbourne?
The Dome is perfect for these games.

I think this is not only a financially rewarding result for the blue baggers, but a brilliant result for the playing group as well.
Exposure to playing at the 2 major venues & this is where finals footy is played - not at PP / Optus Oval.
Surface aside it is a great venue to watch the game & the benefits financially both grounds will provide are obviously the determining factor.
Good to get extra games at the G as well.
As sad as it is to see Optus go, this is the obvious way forward & I hope a couple of hundred bleeding hearts dont cause disruption to what is a GREAT result for the Carlton footy club & its long term future & on field success.

Dead set ********ing ********. THe SKY IS FALLING, THE SKY IS FALLING.
Are you running for the board. What proposals do you have to get us out of debt? Are you going to put up the $80K for the EGM where the 'Spill' crew will get pantsed. Seriously, some people have the mental functions of a grape.

Get stuffed. You're not even a Carlton supporter.

Ahhhh more p***ywhipped footy 'fans' oh well have fun in your ivory towers while corporate footy falls apart anyway. Pity we'll never get to see the look on Koutas face if he ever got told he'd have to take a pay cut to $200K a year to stay at Carlton, can't wait for it to happen to these rich kids in 4-5 years though  (poor little dearys!!)

Better that than to see the club dead or dying.

Going by the Sun today the fight has started, unlike the travesty of waverley this is no done deal. So what if i'm not a Carlton supporter, i just know where i want to see football played. Hell, if Geelong take their 3 home games away from TD then i'd actually join them instead of just following them.

So you are not even a member of your own club but you are encouraging Blues members to spill their board?

Words escape me ....

Oh well i've explained what i think and why i don't do certain things, plus i don't need to tell you guys to spill your own board anymore, there's already enough other people doing that.....
