I enjoyed Vice much more than Sanan.

Vice City was the game with the magic in that series for me. Really, each GTA game is better than the last, but there was something about Vice. Ray Liotta. Salivex. Exploder. Everything about it brings a smile to my face that hasn't been matched by the later games, as good as they are.

Of the modern games:

Assassins Creed II - I really enjoyed I, but the step up in two just blew my mind. Everything I love in a game. Plus the added fun of punching on with the Pope in the Vatican!

Red Dead Redemption - The story in this really sucked me in. Spoiler hidden here --> I was absolutely devastated when you die at the end. I knew it was coming because it fit the story, but goddamn I didn't want it to happen! <--

GTA IV - Once again, really enjoyed the story. Didn't like SA all that much, but this was really strong for mine. I also love the little 'random event' missions where the question marks appear on your map if you're in the right place at the right time. Creepy serial killer guy is the best.

Oblivion/Skyrim - 'Nuff said. Epic. Love it.

FIFA 10 - Housemates and I played a massive career where we created ourselves and took shitty, League 2 English clubs all the way to the top. Being a striker with a ranking of 99 for everything lets you pull off some pretty special shit.

Retro/My younger days:

Battletoads - Like so many others, could NEVER beat this shit. Wasted so many, many hours fruitlessly trying.

Zelda MM/OOT - Can't go past these for the N64, both classics. OOT probably my favourite, just.

Leisure Suit Larry - Used to play this all the time, and goddamn was it fun. Calling random numbers from the payphone was great, so much funny shit to be found.

Battletoads - Like so many others, could NEVER beat this shit. Wasted so many, many hours fruitlessly trying.

I love Battletoads, but it was one of the toughest games to clock that I've ever played. Seriously difficult.

Another game that I love was Space Harrier, on the Sega Master System. Beneath the simple game design lies an extremely tough game to clock without cheating.

I get drawn back to both games due to the desire to win, fair and square, without cheat codes.
The extreme difficulty is just another reason I love old school games. The games that were made when gaming was the realm of geeks and nerds. I love many modern games, but hate the watering down in difficulty they've taken to cater for the casual gamer of today.

I've been so close to beating both, but I haven't quite been good enough to do it. The extreme difficulty gives it much replay value, if one has the persistence to overcome frustration. I continue to love the challenge.

Not surprising, never got beyond level 3 :o

Crazy really to think there were 9 more levels after this one

Level cruises along easy enough, until you get to the last gate - that's when it moves quick. There's an out though. When dodging and weaving 8-10 obstacles, there's a warp down the bottom of the screen. Take it. Stage 4 in the ice cavern is a bitch.

To get through the turbo tunnel when it starts to move quick, I readjusted my hold on the control pad so that I'm using a thumb on the up d-pad and my other thumb on the down d-pad. Since you don't need buttons pushed during this part of the game, it works for me and gets me through with no lives lost.

Shadow Warriors on the arcade machine. Does anyone remember it?

I remember Shadow Warriors on the arcade machine. I used to play that, Truxton, Turbo Force, Wonderboy in Monster Land, Willow and Michael Jackson's Moonwalker when on end of year school holidays, many years ago.

Also, whoever played and (more impotantly) beat Battle Toads? One of the few games I could never master :thumbsd:

I got to level 12, where you had to make your way up the Dark Queen's spire lair by jumping up moving and spinning platforms, but would run out of lives attempting it. Given the amount of time into the level I spend, it surely must be close to getting to the top, but I never have gotten to the top to know for sure.

Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe
I used to play this for hours against my housemates at Uni

Double Dragon The unstoppable elbow, stealing the baseball bat and throwing barrels before a fight to the death with your 'partner' at the end. Ahhhh, the memories....

I thrashed the original Speedball when my older sister brought me a copy for the Sega Master System. Given that I was reliant on others to buy me and my younger brother games in 1994, we sunk so many hours into each game we got. This one was no exception.

Double Dragon 3 (NES) was my favourite of the series. When playing two player co-op, my brother and I used to bring Billy and Jimmy to stand next to each other, wait for an enemy to charge at us, them time it right to do a jumping spin kick at the same time. When done together, the two form into one mega spin kick that means death to enemies in one strike. Sure-fire way to cruise through the 5 levels. Fun game.

Double Dragon 3 (NES) was my favourite of the series.

I always preferred Double Dragon 2, loved the graphics, missions and the music :thumbsu:.

Vice City was the game with the magic in that series for me. Really, each GTA game is better than the last, but there was something about Vice. Ray Liotta. Salivex. Exploder. Everything about it brings a smile to my face that hasn't been matched by the later games, as good as they are.

Other than the original GTA, GTA: Vice City is my favorite in the series. Perfect 80's setting (music, location, characters). Fantastic storyline, HARD missions (San Andreas and IV were too easy in comparison). Yet to be topped and i don't think it ever will.

WWF Superstars Many 20c pieces ploughed into this game in the late 80's. Loved beating Ted DiBiase and Andre the Giant with Jim 'Hacksaw' Duggan, Big Boss Man or The Ultimate Warrior

I always preferred WrestleFest, still a great game :thumbsu:.

Just watched all that..so good. Missed the warp zone though! From memory there's a water level later too?

Yeah. The water level is level 5. The warp in the turbo tunnel takes you there. Level 5 is surfing along and trying to avoid logs and whirlpools. Get to fight Big Blag at the end of that level. Get to put the beat-down on that fat arse rat with a big stick. Big combo to be had if you can juggle it.

Argh so hard to pick just one.

FFVII - The game that introduced me to RPGs. I remember killing that first soldier, it absolutely blew my mind! I was like 10 though. ;)

San Andreas - The GTA I liked most, hundreds of hours poured into it.

Goldeneye - Drained 1000's of hours of my life. Played this like my life depended on it, having 5 siblings in the house, multiplayer in this game was always strong.

Diddy Kong Racing - If Goldeneye wasn't played, it was this. Always preferred this to Mario Kart (Icycle Pyramid anyone?)

Super Mario All Stars - the one on SNES I think? I could still play this game today.

Mortal Kombat - Still remember my mum wouldn't buy this for me because it was too violent lol.

Call of Duty 4 - I think this gets a special mention because it was probably the first FPS I played online that got me hooked. I played Counter-Strike too but only on LAN games.
