Hi All,

What has your favourite Crows era been? I have categorised it via coaching blocks (Cornes years etc).

Was it the excitement of the creation of the club? The Premiership years? Craig's Crowbots?

Poll included

I reckon if you'd split the Craig years I'd have gone from 2005 to 2009. Premierships were special but those early years we looked like machines and I miss expecting a win just about every week.

Good suggestion. 2005 and 2006 some of form was simply amazing, putting teams to the sword by 10 goals a game. Craig would be seen in a very different light if we managed to snag a Premiership in those years.

great thread

1993 was an amazing year, just simply to watch Modra who had one of the greatest seasons ever had. There was nothing better than seeing a genuine forward go about his craft

those early years were great

We certainly have an odd history.

The 05/06 sides should have been the 97/98 side and vice versa.

One era was a great major round side, the other a great minor round side.

97/98 wins out of course, but for week in week out enjoyment, the crowbots are hard to beat

Not only Modra, but that era was just good footy in general. Full forwards dominating, wide open gameplay, fewer stoppages. There was definitely something special about witnessing a FF shootout, with blokes like Dunstall and Ablett racking them up at either end.

this has reminded me of one of my favourite games. hawthorn in 93 at footy park on a Friday night. modra kicked 7 at one end, dunstall 9 at the other. game was a beauty

Was there ever an era where you didn't have that nagging feeling we were going to fek it up somehow, regardless of how far in front we were?

If so, then that one!

Mind you last years elimination final had all the hallmarks, but we somehow dragged it across the line - maybe we've turned a corner!

I assume you mean aside from the 2 premierships?

For me it was the Crowbots. We were dominant and i loved it. 2012 was pretty fun, especially given how badly we were expected to do, and 2015 until we lost Walsh.

I was a bit young during the premiership years so don't remember them too clearly, and I grew up 4 hours out of Adelaide so never felt thaaaat close to the team, at least not nearly as much as I do now.

I love the core of our current group, Tex, Sloane, Crouch, Smith, Jacobs, Talia, Betts, Laird, even Lever already. If it wasn't for that sack of shit Trigg who knows where we might have been hey. Last years Showdown and EF wins were probably my favourite sporting moments of all time. Can't wait to see what the boys can produce from here.

I was happy with most eras, except the last couple of Craig years, especially after being spoilt by his earlier years. In the dud years, I regularly screamed at the TV and turned off in disgust many times during the third quarters, because I knew that we would not recover (I had never done that before). These were the "howler years" and the previously renowned Crows fighting spirit was completely absent.

2005 and 2006 would have to be my personal favourites, I can't remember any other year where I felt as confident going into games as I did during those years.

2005, in particular, should have been the year - I think we finished top after the minor round, didn't we? Or was that 2006? Anyway, that bloody home qualifying final against the Saints when Roo missed through suspension (one of the few of his career - possibly the only one?) and Thommo went berserk giving away free kicks as if he was trying to overcompensate for Roo's absence. I still have nightmares about it.

Roo getting ****ing parvovirus of all things in 2006 didn't help our chances that year. Nor did that second half of the prelim final from (a possibly drug-assisted) Ben Cousins.

Only game we lost at home for the year.

Yes that was 2005, we beat the Eagles in Perth in the last round to finish first.

This team has been through everything, good, bad and ugly. Of course the finals in 1997 and 1998 were memorable.

Non premiership years, would have to say 1993, 2005, 2012 and 2015.

From 2003-2014 we had many difficult losses, we choked away games from time to time. I thought we were done for good after the 2006PF that loss was so bad I felt beyond awful that whole summer and the following season and the team struggled badly in 2007 because of it. But then in 2012 we surprised everybody only to be a huge disappointment the next 2 years, a couple of nice close wins in 2013 but often they were followed by horrible losses, you can forget about 2014 esp the losses. Players tried their hearts out in 2015 despite even more difficulties, it was a well deserved 14 wins and our first finals win in Melbourne in 13 years. With Dangerfield gone at least the players in 2016 are aware of the challenge that lies ahead of them and I am sure they will try their best, we have been written off in 2016 so hopefully we can surprise and maybe make the 8 again. We'll see.

Best coaches: Blight, Craig

Best win: 1997 GF
Worst loss: R7 2014 vs Melbourne

Best years: 1993, 1997, 1998, 2005, 2012
Worst years: 1996, 2007, 2011, 2013, 2014

I pity the poor fools who preferred Craig's era to Blight's. Jesus Christ.

Craig's era would have been a very good one if he wasn't an absolutely woeful game day coach when it mattered the most in prelim finals. Who the hell cares if we dominated the minor season a few times? When it was really on the line, Craigy wasn't up to it. Voting for him is basically saying that near enough is good enough and that's just loser talk.

I'm all for real time. Can't wait to go to the footy again. Voted Shaw years cos although we didn't go well it was the foundation of the premierships.

I dunno man. Do you remember those years? I was only 10 years old at the time and I still remember how much we sucked ass in 95/96. Not denying that Shaw helped build a great side but naming it as your favourite era seems kind of ridiculous.

The Blight era was magical, particularly 1997. Modra's Coleman, Bunji kicking the winning goal against the Smears in Showdown II, the Prelim against a dry-humping Libba, the Granny. Everything was great because it was so unexpected.

The Craig era was clinical, particularly 2005. Minor premiers, 17-5, Chadwick's dream final (which they said was the only Showdown that mattered, so I guess we lead Showdowns 1-0). Everything was great because you came to expect a win each and every week.

But as an era, you can't go past the two flags. You just can't.
