Favourite or memorable banners

I know I'm being nostalgic here but my all time favourite/most memorable cheer squad banner is North's "Kangas Fly" banner from the 1977 GF. A pic of it is on the front cover of "The Coach" about North's 1977 season.

Anyone else have a favourite or memorable banner that sits close to their heart?

The one that sticks out for me was the Fitzroy banner from 1996. I think it was against North and just ripped the AFL to shreds.

I went to fitzroy's last game ever (against freo in Perth). I remember after the game talking with the die hards that made the trip over. Had a great time discussing how piss poor the corporation side of the AFL was becoming what a flog Ross "the boss" was and what clubs they would have to support now. Easily the best supporters from not my club, I am sure there would have been a whole lot more of these if they were still around.

Now the amusing this about this one is that it was ruined by a young player bursting on to the scene by booting about 12. One B Fevola.

You wouldnt get away with that kind of thing now, as banners are "screened", checked whatever before they are made arent they??

It's fair to say that if your team is entering their last month or so of existence as a stand alone entity that the AFL would be somewhat limited as regards to punitive measures.

There was a banner in the Sydney cheer squad in the 90's that read "HEY THE NAMES JEFF!" I don't know why but I found it highly amusing. Can anyone shed any light on who "Jeff" was?

the essendon won a few years back about Carlton's 'they know we're coming' was pretty good.

Basically took the piss out of the marketing slogan and then won the game for good measure

Collingwood's 1981 GF 'Stairway to Heaven' banner was great, however the all-time classic Pies banner was the first time we played in Sydney and got fined for the following:

"Collingwood - First Rate
Swans - Second Rate
Sydney - Doesn't Rate"

Needless to say the AFL wasn't too impressed!

The lowest point came years ago when Hawthorn cheer squad saw fit to put a nasty comment about a Geelong cheer squad member on their banner. The Geelong cheer squad member concerned ended up getting a nice little four figure compensation over it.

Collingwood's 1981 GF 'Stairway to Heaven' banner was great

i remember being amazed by the quality of that banner - sat in the northern stand that day overlooking it. it was enormous.

i never saw it, but any filth out there with the photo of the banner from 91 vs essendon saying

"if you lose a grand final to collingwood youre a bloody idiot".

Round 7 1979 Western Oval Footscray vs South Melbourne

My parents had flown over from Chicago to visit me in Melbourne and I took them to their first and only footy match.

I had to explain the meaning of the South banner that day to them:

"How much is that doggy in the gutter?"

That would never be allowed today. I also miss my "I Hate Collingwood" and "I Hate Richmond" badges.

Probably the strangest I've seen:

And as for the best, pains me to say it but Hawthorn's at the 2008 grand final dwarfed the Geelong effort and is probably the greatest banner I've seen.
