Males are underrepresented at university, and by quite a bit. Yet, the males that actually get there, tend to do well in STEM fields. So my emphasis would be to get more males in STEM fields - instead of having them not make it to university AT ALL. How could we do that? Early education in STEM, for both men and women, not just men - and I did say that. There is going to be room in STEM for everyone. When someone points out that men are falling to the wayside by not entering university, the conversation shouldn't be turned into a war of genders. It should simply be that men are falling behind academically, and what can we do about it? That is also the same in regards to women and STEM, we need more women in STEM, what can we do about it? There does not have to be one or the other, these are both problems we need to fix - for the benefit of EVERYONE.
Do you have stats on men being under represented at university? Preferably by faculty?

"Female students have outnumbered their male counterparts since 1987, and now do so by a considerable margin. In 2014 the sex ratio for higher education students was just 80 males per 100 females".

"Females are severely underrepresented among students of IT, engineering and related technologies, and architecture and building. Males are underrepresented among education, health, society and culture, and creative arts students".

I think its interesting, Males tend to succeed more in technical fields (STEM) or drop out completely. They appear to represent the extreme - in that they go well, or don't. Women appear more consistent, yet don't succeed as much in technical fields, that isn't saying they can't - just they they don't. I think that is probably why we see more female teachers, women gravitate towards psychology and liberal arts, teaching, etc. To be honest, if I was a teacher - which I'm not (I'm just a Hird fanboy/supporter) - I would encourage boys at a young age, to get more involved in STEM. We know they succeed at it, and STEM is a subject where, in high school at least, there is more male teachers in those fields, as opposed to other subjects. And obviously, we need more women in STEM, as they seem to lack interest in STEM - and gravitate towards more social careers.
Variance in IQ attests to this as well.

EDIT: 63-37 indicated the increase of graduates rather than the overall amount.
Richard James, the director of the University of Melbourne’s Centre for the Study of Higher Education, said the “pendulum has swung” in favour of females, but there was a reluctance to treat male underrepresentation as an equity issue.

“We are seeing an overall gender imbalance (but) … we are still reluctant in higher education to think of men as an under-represented group or a disadvantaged group,” Professor James told The Australian.

He said the imbalance began in school years. “We have got a national issue to face up to, and that is particularly in middle and secondary (schooling) young men are not doing as well as they should.

“Is it a problem? I think yes — it is a broad education problem for Australia that we have underachievement across a broad section of young males, and that flows on into their higher education opportunities.”

Legitimate discussion happening in this thread for the first time in memory and you want to drag it back down.
I'm just a terrible, terrible man.

The idea of putting kids together based on age is stupid and the whole periods and bell thing was designed to prepare the lumpen proletariat for life in the factories when the Free Education Act came about in the 1890s in England. Instead of endlessly ******* around with curriculum to fight a bullshit culture war they should be worrying about pedagogy - people are not getting what they need out of the Primary and Secondary education system.

It is weird that the kids seem to be at such different levels when they start school, but they end up pretty much evened out by about 11. It's almost like this is the outcome the system is designed to produce.

For the 2nd time in recent months, a gathering of GamerGate supporters had to be disbanded due to a bomb threat.

Weird how the HuffPost etc don't bother to report it when this happens but if the threat is against an anti-GamerGate gathering, we never hear the end of it and the internet trolls responsible are assumed to represent the average GamerGater. Christina Hoff-Summers was amongst those evacuated from both events before she had the chance to speak.

Only skimmed through but yeah, really interesting. From what I saw, it confirms that girls are slightly ahead in literacy all the way through school (with boys noticably lagging at the bottom end of the scale) and boys do better with numeracy.

Kidd Vicious, disgraceful that you support these people who think its OK to post death threats against women. Is that part of your culture?

Aside from the stupidity of bomb threats - These guys have gatherings and call themselves "GamerGate supporters"?

What are they supporting?

It seems it was a panel of journalists covering the issues, not specifically a gathering of GamerGate supporters?

Considering women work 18 -20 years less in their life time than men, its hardly a brain teaser

Also lol'd at the homeless women comment. Considering 90% of homeless people are men.
But as usual don't worry about men or facts:rolleyes:
Good to see you have all the answers:drunk:
Why do you think they work that many years less?
