OK, it's down to sheep stations for 4 teams in this final round. West Perth, Sowfs, Swans and the Sharks are playing for high stakes and 2 of those teams are playing each other, so makes for one cracking final round.
Souths v Claremont - last time they met the cubs upset the more highly fancied doggies, but can anyone see it happening again? I for one can't because McGinnity and Mackenzie will be missing. The doggies need to win to have a shot at second spot and, ironically, hope their most reviled neighbour comes up with the chocolates at Joondy. There are a heap of talented youngsters on display though, with Adams, Wilson, Phillips and possibly Dell'Olio, Bairstow and Collica against deBoer, Roberts, Browne, Thomson and Stevenson.
West Perth v East Freo in a critical match. Can the Sharks keep their charge towards the finals up or can the Falcons cement 2nd spot to make the Lions start to sweat with another finals meeting against their nemesis on the way? Sharks are continuing to play good football without most of their AFL affiliated players and the same can be said about West Perth. It should be a cracker even though the Sharks don't travel that well to Joondy, but this is different, everything is on the line. It's going to come down to whether the Sharks can limit Longmuir and LeCras' influence on the game. Anthony v Pearce and co shapes as critical as well. Suspect the Falcons, just, or is that just me hoping?
Swans v Peel in another important match as there is only 1.2% separating Swans and East Freo's percentages, even though the Sharks are 1 win less, but should Swans lose and East Freo win, you would think they'd be overtaken. It's also important to go into the finals with winning form and Swans desperately need that. On the other hand Peel will be shattered that they came so close this year and really let themselves down in a couple of critical matches. Swans have 7 kids invited to DC so I expect a few of them to be on show, with Jarrad Blight being the only one not seen at league level I believe. Hopefully we'll see Notte in the black and white league team, alongside Yarran and Walters. Ballantyne, well, who's going to stop him? I expect Richardson to go with him although expect Clancee Pearce to maybe get a shot at some stage, if Richo's finding it tough. Think Swans will get up in a tight match, only because it's at basso.
East Perth v Perth in the who cares cup! Poor old Perth, showed so much so early and then fell away badly. Eastaugh's last game in charge so I expect the boys to be fired up for him and East Perth will be trying to make sure they avoid the spoon. Look out for number 33 from EP, who was pointed out to me by Sico (thanks Sico)
. Young Hutchings looks very, very composed for a 17yo, I also think he was one of only 3 WA players to be given an AFL-AIS scholarship this year. On Perth's side this is the final chance for S Young, Siekerka, Thornton and K-T to impress the higher level scouts.
So it's come down to a cut throat final round, where there is everything to gain for those that can hold their nerve. Best of luck to all teams, except a couple and may I not be a nervous wreck by Saturday arvo.
