James Sutherland spoke on 3AW recently, stating that Hilditch's comments on his selection panel having done a good job during the Ashes as 'unfortunate'.
"Andrew's comments … were unfortunate, and I think what he was trying to say was the selectors had tried their hardest," Sutherland said. "Everyone involved needs to take responsibility for what was a very disappointing performance."

It is about bloody time someone from CA came out and said this.:thumbsu:

For months, years even, EVERYONE'S been saying there's problems in CA. The selectors, the fixturing, the promotions, the focus on profit over performance. Etc, etc. All that time Sutherland's been denying that saying all is well and that they know best.

Now suddenly, that public opinion has turned completely against the way CA is being run and the people in charge Sutherland changes his tune and starts having a go at Clarke, Hughes and now Hilditch.

Comes off as insincere and an attempt to pander to the public before he's forced out. **** him.

might be true enough, but an easy target. taking a swipe at hilditch and hughes/clarke shouldn't detract from his own job problems, after all he's in some way responsible for what happens underneath him. things are getting snarky...

It's just more buck passing and a fairly gutless attempt at it.

He has some cheek, complaining about the players' absorption with their sponsors when CA are the ones who have set Clarke up as the golden boy with all the advertising contracts and they made the selectors make the announcement of the Ashes squad to fit in with marketing requirements.

Some of the players (Clarke and Hughes are the 2 that went to a function on the morning of the Boxing Day test) need to be torn a new one over the lack of focus on their cricket. CA certainly take advantage and encourages the players in their marketing campaigns but it is not CA's fault that the players attend marketing events during a match.

Do you think they went off their own bat? Or that CA (ie. Sutherland) either told them to go, or at least signed off on it?

Gutless buck passing by Sutherland.

CA have run surveys to find out who is their most marketable players (Clarke and Johnson apparently) and they use these guys in their ads and push campaigns their way.

They haven't a leg to stand on with this sort of criticism. I agree, it's garbage that Clarke is doing it, but hey, while in Rome...

It's almost a curse, last year Hughes was in the KFC ads, this year it's Bollinger in between very ad break, both were quickly out of the side after the ads came on.

Looks as though Bollinger indulged in the sponsors product too much if Ponting thinks that he 'hit the wall' in Adelaide. Professional athletes should never be in that position. Am I correct in hearing that it was because of marketing that the squad for the completed Test series was named early to pander to those sponsors? If so then Sutherland needs to have a look at his position also.

Not entirely bollingers fault, he was keen to play any player would be, the NSW media were outraged that bollinger, who was one of our best bowlers, well lets be honest, his form was solid, was left out.

Instead of doing a thorough investigation into his fitness they rushed him back into the side.

Bollinger has said he's been getting mixed and confusing messages from the selectors, so has haddin, et al.

Its a mess atm.

A complete mess.

i just want people in charge of cricket in australia who don't look to deny and buck pass every time there is a problem.
