What Firewalls do y'all recommend?

I ask because the ease with which it is to hack someone has become very apparent to me in the last week. A friend of mine acquired hacking software and now has no problem getting into people's computers. Now this guy is nothing special with computers (likes to think he is), imagine someone who knows a bit about hacking with malicious intent.

I'm not worried about this friend, i infact gave him my IP several times so he can try out the software (he now has a means of obtaining IP's himself...), what I am worried about is the ever increasing amount of internet hero's.

So, any recommendations?

ZoneAlarm is undoubtably the best firewall software out there.

Norton Firewall whidch comes with Norton SystemWorks isn't too bad either I guess.

I was just curious as to how many times a day it comes up an says you have been attempted to be hacked, but zone alarm has prevented it to you?

I know my Dad uses this program an he gets a hell of alot each day, makes you wonder how safe your passwords, bank account info (if you use online banking) and other stuff really is

Hmmm, ZoneAlarm seems a b*tch to get. I don't intend on downloading it off Kazaa, and FTP sites are tricky to search.

If you can't find it online, try getting nortin anti-virus protect, I'm using that atm and it does the trick nicely.

I dont actually use ZoneAlarm, so I cant tell you how many warnings about an 'attempted hacking attack that was prevented' I get everday. Just read in PC Mags and everything when they did comparision feature spreads that ZoneAlarm came out tops.

I just use Norton SystemWorks, got everything you need really - AntiVirus software, Internet Security, CleanSweeper, Utilities, Personal firewall, etc.....

On the internet security feature, I usually get 3/4 a week of those 'attemped hacking' warnings stopped by it.

Ha! The fact he couldn't get your IP without asking shows he has no clue. He'll do more damage to his own system before anyone elses.

Software firewalls bite anus.

Hardware firewalls are the ONLY way to go.

This guy has done 3 Semesters of his TAFE computer course and doesn't know sh*t. He downloads software, reads the manual/guide, than brags about using it as if he actually wrote it.

But thats the problem. If this dud could acquire the software to hack people, imagine someone who knows something about hacking?

I have Norton Systemworks, but not the firewall for some reason. Might go down to the computer store and buy a decent firewall.

My mate showed my a VERY easy way to get access to peoples computers when I was about 14. I'm not sure if I could remember how to do it these days but the process was very simple. I did it myself and got access to someone's computer and could see all their files.
