I just own shares in adairs and just wonder who the hell actually shops there given how expensive it is. I mean the stuff when I went I looked is nice but it something like $130 for a pillow or $70 for a case.

See thats what you should check when buying into a building. Not just your own apartment and if its nice. But all the rest of them, if they're all old as shit, then you are in for some pain listening to them eventually get renno'd.
