I could be the first person asked to leave a Sydney pub for not talking.
Drinking at an iconic Marrickville hotel a few years ago, a bouncer approached and told me to get out.

“You haven’t said a word in five minutes, it’s time to leave” he said, accusing me of being drunk because I wasn’t speaking.

I laughed, but he was dead serious.

I explained to the power-hungry wannabe cop that I was on my first beer, and I showed him my car keys as proof I was driving home.

I never found it like that at all but i was in the Eastern Suburbs, elite wealth, if they tried that shit on most of the patrons at a Sippys or Pav theyd likely be slapped with a law suit.

The lockout laws made it super tribal, if you were in Bondi at 8pm you werent leaving cause you almost certainly werent getting anywhere in time to make it in so you just stayed wherever you were.

I get why they tried it and honestly I didn’t mind it but it was a cultural shift from Melbourne where you pub crawl most nights out.

Idm the lock out per say, it's more the "lock in" type feeling and then if you leave the club you cant get back in.

Could you not even like go outside within 5m for some fresh air and no go back in? Was it that strict.

I believe so, i never tried it but my understanding was that if you walked out the front door it was over, go home son.
