Umm yeah that's when I went in summer but that was as a kid with my brother and partner on the way back to work in Mt Isa.

It still only affected like 5% of the holiday right at the end before flying out and the rest was perfect weather. Townsville is supposed to be pretty ordinary anyway, there's a mean joke that it's just Mt Isa by the sea.

Best place on the way up from Brisbane was Airlie Beach, most overrated Hervey Bay.

Went to the reef of Mackay, that was good without being great imo. But it's supposed to be far better further up north in places like Cairns.
