Just to give him some love, I'll vote Hartung.
We won't take him, but he's one I've actually seen live and he was great.

Inside Footy bloke thinks Sheed will be available at 12. If so, him.

But I wanted Docherty over Ellis

_RT_ Love the look of lennon but ... who is most likely to go to us ?

Fj must think there is somthing in this draft at our pick

The thought of using pick 12 on Hartung makes me want to be sick.

Lewis Taylor is a very good player but a player who I would only take if he was a desperate need and if you had more than one first round pick (if not recruiting for a need).

Im thinking anyone of Lennon, Salem, Dunstan or Sheed for our first pick. Which on current performance I would have Sheed most worthy of pick 12 followed by Dunstan, Lennon and Salem. Though on potential I would have Lennon, followed by Salem, Sheed and Dunstan.

I'd like to see Nathan Freeman as i believe we could use someone with genuine pace especially someone who can burst from stoppages like foly used too. As we lack that type of player in the centre square.

First 45 secs

Although if freeman isn't around at our pick then i'd like to see Marcus Bontempelli as i believe he has the composure to become a pendlebury type with the right develop similar body shape just needs to stop growing as i think he is currently at 193 which is starting to become more a forward or back type size.

But if we take Christian salem i'd still be happy as he is an excellent player, i just feel if the other two are still around they would fit more of a need then salem does.

And Ben lennon will be picked up by Brisbane, theres no way they will pass on him.

Oh man... after watching those foley highlights I wish he could get back to that!!!

I think he will be back next season and ready to get back that old form. He had some significant injury so was not expecting miracles, but got mad love for him and think he will be back next season...

Hartung and Taylor are players of a need somewhat, you do not use 1st Round Picks unless you have a plethora of 1st Round picks on players of there mould though. That along with there heights makes them unrealistic picks for us, hoping for Bontempelli/Acres/Freeman but it will be Salem if he gets to us.

Yeah, I hope we pick Bontempelli, I think he'll be ready to go as well, I think Salem might slide to our pick, but I'd still pick Bontempelli.

I'd love for us to break the mold and get Taylor for the reason I said in the other thread but I voted Salem because I think he's more likely to be available and the we player choose. He's our type.

Salem was compared to Taylor Hunt. That doesn't excite me too much. :(

Ben Lennon on the other hand. Style: Steve Johnson? :)

I look at them as the same sort of selection that Rioli/Smith were for the Hawks. That cream on top that gives us a point of difference and can be a game changer. Hartung Taylor and even Freeman would be that sort of player, the bonus being is that they are predicted to go around that point of the draft so it'd not like we're reaching for them.

Bontempelli - height
Taylor - nutter and speed
freeman - speed big bodied
crouch - inside midfileder

If you go one what we need it would have to be Crouch. His brother Brad has turned it on I imagine Matt will too. Hope he is still there. Freeman has been touted to be quite inconsistent with disposals but Dangerfield who he is likened too was the same.. Can Bontempelli use his height as a weapon!! not sure to be honest. Taylor just because he will go all day.. I think Crouch, Freeman, Taylor then Bontempelli. Don't like the others...

Trying to choose the one that i believe would be available at our pick I would go hartung, I always worry about those young kids who have pace but brake tackles, then they come into the AFL and find against the bigger and more fitter opposition they can no longer brake tackles so easy and then struggle to adapt. IMO hartung even though he brakes tackles and has pace, so it seems im contradicting myself lol. He also finds the footy, does not mind to tackle and more importantly is clean with the footy with a really good long kick.

I think comparing Salem to Taylor Hunt under sells him a lot. I've heard him compared to Jordan Lewis I think our supporters would prefer that comparison if we did land him.

Are we in the position to start adding the cream to the top though? The similarities between the Dawks of 07 leading to 08 and our team this year are crazy yet are we in a position to challenge for the premiership next year and trying to give it a real shake? One more year of solid midfield drafting the likes of Acres/Bontempelli/Freeman/Salem could see the midfield almost complete with inclusions through Trade/Free Agency and we could address the game changer need next draft, it will be interesting to see the approach the recruiting team take with our 1st pick and will give us an indication of where we believe we are at. Very much looking forward to November the 21st.

Been a big wrap of Freeman for a while now, and have been on record saying he is the one I want provided Sheed is gone. Sheed would cap our midfield off nicely, but is one dimensional, as in he is a pure mid. Freeman is that explosive player we are lacking. Can play both inside and outside, and with he and martin in the same squad, we would have the most explosive midfield in the comp.

Preaching to the choir :thumbsu:

Bingo.

Well said. I think Salem is a Francis Jackson first round type. The one Hardwick demands. Certain qualities and he has them in spades.

Competitive? Damn right, kid loves a contest. Flies into tackles and wins his own ball.

Elite kick? Will both sides do? This kid is a super kick. Very neat and drills them.

Versatile? Yep can play in any line. Half back, half forward or through the middle.

Good kid? Yep a beauty. Like Ellis, like Vlastuin, like Conca you have that loyal kid who will develop leadership and not disrupt the group.

He's also a good decision maker, has great hands in close and good agility. Needs to improve his motor for the next level but that will come.

I'd be shocked if he is available and we don't read his name out. Gun. Safe. Can play Round One.
