You dont need tall midfielders Deledio is 189cm Grigg is 190cm how tall you want them to be? Midfielders are ment to be small. You dont get a 194cm midfielder unless there Adam Goodes.

Fyfe, Pedlebury, Swan, O'keefe, Hodge, Judd, Dangerfield, Griffen... they not good enough? few premierships and brownlows there.. but you make a good point

You could say the same about small blokes. A gun is a gun regardless of size. We aren't small so it's not really an issue. If we'd drafted a midget brigade over the years then yeah we'd need some height now.

I'm up for best available if its Bontempelli or Taylor don't mind but my response is to the guys having their say on the strength of a taller midfielder. Either way we're getting a midfielder so time will tell.

Swan, Judd, Danger and Griffan are all small then Grigg and Deledio. Pendalbury is the same height as Grigg and Deledio is taller then Swan. Yet Collingwood drafted little Kennedy last year. We are not small by a long shot. Dusty would be 187cm which is the same as Danger.....

I wouldn't take Taylor in the first round. He's too small. And a lot of those guys don't make it. He may well go on and have a big career but it's too risky for mine.

Same was said last year about Kennedy last season and he looks alright at Collingwood. Id take him with 16-18.

Our mids except for Foley are of a good height. If we were to get a very tall mid, he would need to be a good mark like Tuck, otherwise the benefit is questionable.

Not necessarily I just don't want a 173cm dwarf in the first round. 180ish is fine. How many gun AFL players are there at 173cm? Harvey? Then every dwarf gets likened to Harvey and none live up to it. :D

With a later pick that will probably bust tall or small then fine.

most of us are talking about a replacement for Tuck. we lose size.. I don't think we'll pick a small bloke anyway. quick, small midfielders can't get a gig at Richmond. Foley :(

I went to each Collingwood game this year, and I wouldn't go out of my way to get him. He's ok but I don't think he'll ever be a gun.

But originally you were winging about us having our say on taller midfielders. haha just stuffing around

Freeman, Crouch or Dunston it is then

Wouldn't match up well on the saints then .... :p

Sorry had to ....

I think it's come from a couple of things: 1) Apparently the club has a preference for mids with some height, or at least aren't short. To me that would mean a player about 180cm or above, but some of us are taking that to mean we want a very tall mid, which might not be the case. 2) Attributes such as Outside run with some inside has also been identified as a need by some.

Put the two together, and tall mids like Acres seem to fit the bill, although as you point out, you wouldn't pass on guys with the talent of an Ablett or Cotchin instead, even though Ablett in particular might be considered 'short' at 182cm.

Yeah but you have to consider our ruck group as a whole.

The thing is we have plenty of rover types. We really need a couple of ruck rover types particularly if you like Dusty playing more at half forward. Also if you think Lids is more outside someone like Acres and or Dunstan would in theory should do wonders for RFC. Also if you see Cotch more a centre who can rest forward guys that can take the physical pressure off Cotch in the ruck a little would be gold!!

Acres and Dunstan fit the bill in this regard, where we have like a guy at Acres height, reach and strength, with a bit of class and marking power, which, truth be told we have never had, while Dunstan seems a worker, good leadership and seems to use it well inside, left footer which is a nice change up and bit of an extractor and even Sheed if he slips is a leftie with reasonable height and Salem a left footer with some nice polish although more outside it seems. This is why we can't really trade down our pick 12 because a lot of these guys around this mark should be a nice healthy fit for RFC IMO!!

Haha I wasn't having a go about that. Just saying a good player is a good player. For every tall mid with those accolades there is a shorter one with the same. Though there isn't as many 173cm blokes with the accolades you mentioned. :D

Wrong they are taller than Grigg and Deledio, height is key going forward.

Freeman, Acres, Sheed = Happy.
Salem, Dunstan = Fair Enough.
Crouch, Taylor = Disappointed.

This is pretty much me too. Its kind of like boobs, they are all good i just have an order of preference.

Seriously guys, this tall midfielder crap is getting beyond a joke! Ablett, Mitchell, Cotchin, Selwood, Harvey are under 186cm and are some of the best midfielders around. Im pretty sure id take an Ablett over Pendalbury and a Cotchin over Moribito. As long as they can find the ball and is a good kick. Id take him. If there 180cm so be it.
