Robbie Deans has called on Australian squash player David (the Marine) Palmer to give the Wallabies the edge over the all blacks. Palmer is known to have "completed" the beep test 5 times in a row with just a 3 minute break between, and is well recognised as possibly the fittest man on the squash tour and possibly the world (funny enough, I don't know if he was invited to participate in Australia's greatest athlete, but may have blitzed them).
What impresses me the most about Palmer though is his incredible mental toughness, I've seen him grind a more talented opponent down when he is on the verge of defeat only to pull out a victory. He seems to do this in almost every tournament, which got him the nick name "the Marine". Most players dread playing him. He has not dropped out of the top ten in the world since he got in there in 2000, and still pulls those beep test results in his 30's.
This is the sort of fitness and mental training we need at our club.
