A decsion (i think?) might be made on the 10th from the NFL? As divy 2 is uneven another team would make it even and no bye.

If Fitzroy Stars are in the div 2 next year, are there any players interested in playing?

And please no Stereotyping - the generations have changed since then

The NFL have no option but to take the stars on next year. After losing a couple of clubs over the past couple of season's the league would be crazy not to take any club within reason that wanted to join. The more sides they have, the more chance the league have got of making 3 divisions work in 2009.

Re: What is the consensus? with Fitzroy Stars adding to the competition

This is completely rumour but I heard that the stars had been kicked out of many a league before and are nothing but trouble.

Re: What is the consensus? with Fitzroy Stars adding to the competition

there is no way the league will get a divi 3 in 2009 nead at least 6 more clubs and just taking any club is not the answer why not restart coburg amatuers again then?? or any other club that has been banned by any league

There needs to be at least at least 26 clubs for 3 divisions, 10 - 8 - 8.

Fitzroy Stars have never been kicked out of a leaugue , all the leauges that they have been in have folded. we have been working now for a few years to get the stars into a leauge but with all myths around its been hard , but now with the new leauge and wallan recently leaving it has giving a real good chance to get in a bit earlier and we have got some very respected community pepole invlved with the club and some very high profile people as well , and there are alot of players out there that are keen to come and play for the stars next year if we get in...

This is fact, i also heard that if not voted in on the 10th then next year for certain? I could also tell you were they will be playing at while the ground on St George Road will be getting fixed, (and this is only if they are voted into the NFL) I can also tell you that it's a catch 22 if they do, sponsors are willing to talk to Fitzroy Stars about some major $$$ remuneration will be awarded as they have advised the NFL, i could also say that they are going to interview a major player on the admin side of things as the main person (CEO or President), if he agrees, from a VFL club, that's all i'll say for now, Watch this space?

Re: What is the consensus? with Fitzroy Stars adding to the competition

good lucck to them.....i hope they are successful in getting the club up and running just seems unlikely....brunswick power are another aboriginal club that play in the wrfl....i think they have only won 2 games in 3 or 4 years power get pumped every week. stars will need some quality players if they are to be succesful in competition

Yes i know brunswick power are struggling, and i hope that they keep going and all the best to them. But we fitzroy stars play in a carnival at the start of october play agaisnt brunswick power, and although we play 20min halfs, fitzroy stars has taken out the carnival (i don't know if this is write but you'll know what i mean) 4 of the past 5 carnivals. I think Fitzroy Stars have even been up and running long before Rumbalara has up in sheppton, there has been a call from young community members to get stars up and running again, players past and currently playing with div 1 seniors over the years are willing to sign up which is great, now that a greater governance is going to be put in place with fitzroy stars, i'm sure and that's if they are elected to play in 2008, were not just showing up for the numbers, and once the wider community understand what the stars could offer in the future, they should be better for the experience. All those past issues have been raised by NFL about sercurity and procedures and protocol have been put in place and presented to NFL. Still issues up in the air on getting a licence to sell alcohol whilst during a game.:thumbsu:

As I said in my previous post, within reason. Of course the NFL aren't going to take clubs that have been kicked out of other competitions due to the fact that they are trying to increase the profile and image of football within the Diamond Valley, but if they are serious about a third division (which they are and have informed clubs about the process going forward into 2009) then they need to find clubs to join the competition for this to happen. I would imagine that the NFL would be in talks with perspective clubs as we speak.
Interested to know what people think of having a 8 team division 2 and 3 if the NFL ever manage to get 26 sides in the competition?

Re: What is the consensus? with Fitzroy Stars adding to the competition

Stars come with some obvious baggage however they should at least have the opportunity to put forward their case.
Without encouraging poaching they could do worse than approach a local talent like Mungara Brown to be a football leader and mentor. They should also seek counsel from Paul Briggs and the Rumba group re the admin structure required to sustain the club.

Re: What is the consensus? with Fitzroy Stars adding to the competition

Stars come with some obvious baggage .

That should end the conversation. A step back by the NFL.

The NFL is trying to create a new trouble free image, all clubs need to be put on notice.

Stars have previously been expelled from at least one league and even their current spruiker WalkertoBetts would acknowledge they have a history (actual and perceived) of poor crowd/player behaviour.

That said Stars haven't been the sole offender with regards to these issues and we move forward. Having seen first hand what Rumbalara has achieved in the Shepparton area (and not without problems along the way) if Stars could follow a similar model they would have a strong case for inclusion.

I note Dwight's comments re a new image for the NFL and agree we don't want to hark back to the old "blood and guts" image of the defunct DVFL however if the NFL is about inclusion and expansion, every potential NFL club deserves an opportunity to present their case.

they were never expelled from any leaugue all the leauges just folded . and yes rumbablara has done well up there as i played there for a few years and we will be going along the lines of the club with new ideas as well ....

so hopefully we get good news for 2008 and we could start moving forward and back to playing in a competition.

True i think the MNFL folded in 1994/5? Rumbalara have got a good governance/admin, which i'm sure we will follow, all of those measures have been put in place, it's "noted" on, what the NFL had handed out with it's penalties on the under 19 players after the GF, people have worked hard to get were we are or to this point, i'm sure that those issues relating to the old stars have been addressed.

Agreed.
As previously stated, time to look forward not back.

It will certainly be interesting to see whether Aboriginal players from Northcote Park will be poached by Fitzroy to play in a potential side for next season.

Re: What is the consensus? with Fitzroy Stars adding to the competition

WTB
Positive response/numbers at last night's meeting/BBQ?
Wasn't the turn up as we had last week (25+), but general consensus from everybody is if we do get approval, then more would follow? discussion on training drills (time trials), pros and cons.
As for the BBQ didn't happen:mad:, just training:eek:

The Fitzroy Stars will not poach any players...We will encorage people to come down and have a look at what we are about. And if they decide to stay with us, it will be great. It will be no different from any other club trying to attract players.

The Fitzroy Stars will not be reliant on Aboriginal players only, it is open to all players that wish to to enjoy a game of football provided they abide by the clubs code of conduct.

Must say Northcote Park, have been exceptionally great over the years with indigenous players, not to mention other teams in the old DV, some players from all NF League teams both divy 1 and 2 have shown interest or are just curious, pending on the discision.
