Fix up an umpire, get eight weeks

Anyone out there wanting to take umpiring has just decided against it. Well done to all concerned, your actions have just put back the game a few more years. This individual who was suspended should not be allowed to coach until he undertakes an anger management course and then be forced to umpire at least 4 games of junior footy to see what it is like first hand.He might be in for a rude shock when he sees what it is like from the other side of the fence.

just heard on the run home program on sen that the umpire has been suspended for a week also........interesting stuff.......because he went to a newspaper and got his situation out into the public.......no win for anybody.....imo

I think that unless you were there you should not pretend to know anything about it!
Weapons i agree with you, no win for anyone.
Although think its very unfair of the media (& the umpire) to continue to go on & on about how this guy threatened the umpire but in a press release issued by the league all it says is this guy got 8 weeks for ABUSING the umpire, the charge of threatening was dismissed, to me when something is dismissed its untrue, so why do they keep going on about how its true.
The umpire has lied through his teeth about a number of things to make himself look good....eg: telling the herald sun that the WRFL suspended him, when it wasnt the league it was the umpires association. If you're going to tell a story to the media, tell the facts!!!!!!
Obviously told lies at the tribunal otherwise the charge of threatening would have been proven guilty.....

The media have blown this thing way out of proportion & in my opinion this umpire should be punished. The league has a strict media policy & its there for a reason, why should he be seen as the victim when he is the one who has caused all this media scrutiny on our league & this coach & now bringing an executive member into it. Our league doesnt need this kind of negative publicity & all because of one dill we have all of it.
If it were a club official that had done this the league would be all over them like a rash, but because its an umpire its ok.....

Maybe if there was more media scrutiny and negative publicity the WRFL wouldn't be the bastion of thuggery and ferals that it currently is. Maybe the league would be pushed to clean up its act. Its all in the too hard basket right now.

It took quite an upheaval for the DVFL to finally pull its finger out and do something about the onfield and sideline antics. But you don't hear anywhere near as much negativity about the NFL these days, do you?

The last time the WRFL were all over a club official was... umm... can't remember...

And my boys play U11 and U14 WRFL - I see plenty of shit on most Sundays that would simply not be tolerated in a properly run and controlled league. AFL Victoria has plenty of support material and guidelines, it just needs someone with balls at the executive level to start enforcing it and getting rid of the idiots.

just a quick 1........umpire is always right well thats how ive been brought up and how i have coached kids in the jnrs.......and if more coaches have this attitude most of these problems wouldnt arise......

no 2......abusing/threatening its all the same thing......imo you must be the coach's wife.........???? well who are you???? did you see the incident??????are you from the werribee footy club????you sound like it.......

no 3......to get 8 weeks for what ever he did........he did something against an umpire........again from where i come from is a no no......pathetic by the coach........and of all things he's a jnr coach........

no 4......so its ok for the wrfl to lose another umpire when numbers are deminishing as it is.......

heard the young bloke(umpire) on the radio today.......again interesting stuff.......wants to keep umpiring but it wont be at the wrfl.......which is very dissapointing in its own right.......though the wrfl havnt done themselves any favours from what he was saying by not representing him very well.........

poor effort by the wrfl:(

So no blame on the coach? Doesn't he have history? You sound like the mother or sister of the coach...

The umpire did look like a big nuffy on the channel nine news.....funny shaped body with white petrol station type glasses....running around on Shorten reserve with a footy and wearing a WRFL top...

Can't be bothered doing the research so if anyone can help then thanx. It was obviously the last round before junior finals, so was there a result given for the game after it was called off. What ever the result, did it mean a team missing a finals chance or change the position of the sides in the finals? With the umpires integrity now being questioned could there be a bit more behind the scenes if you know what i mean?

What do you mean by that? There was some misreporting that he'd been suspended for a week but the league CEO corrected that saying he'd been appointed for this week before he tendered his resignation.

Gees, you get around Ammo Man.

I will get all the hot oil from a couple of seniors umps tomorrow morning. The truth will probably be somewhere in between the two extremes that have been reported.

going on what the umpire said .....the wrfl exec didnt suspend him........the wrfl umpires association did after the hearing due to the leak out to the newspapers.......

still wtf's going on.......joke

My sources indicate there was no suspension from either WRFL or WRFLUA, there may have been discussion but in reality it was a rumour passed on as fact by the media. But it didn't matter anyway since he resigned.

I understand the reasons for the misconduct charge not being upheld, there is no dirt there despite the paper's best efforts. Doesn't excuse the fact that the coach was only just back from another four-week suspension for umpire abuse.

However the ump media circus has become a side issue in the overall smelliness of things.

Disturbing reports of season-long skulduggery and impropriety at high levels may come out of this next week - or it may all be quietly sidelined until after the junior finals. Stay tuned.

OTP - You telling us that this bloke just back from four weeks - same bloke who was found Not Guilty of a charge of Abusive Language towards an Umpire back in round 3 by the IHC.

This is an absolute joke - what is his past record - juniors / football can do without coaches like this. Behaviour such as this is what incites players and parents and therefore the root of a lot of problems.

WRFL need to take a good long hard look at this - they miss the boat this time, but next appaerance the book should be thrown at him and he should be deregistered as a coach.

But his Mother's on the WRFL Board isn't she , no doubt pulled some strings, i agree a junior coach should have been given more, not a good teaching for younger kid's.

correct weight - AND the player who had been sent off and came back on the ground was the coaches brother (Board Member's Son). Can anyone at the WRFL spell CONFLICT OF INTEREST. always help when mummy dearest pulls some strings. Got a bright future in the labour party with those kind of moves she does.

THE TRUTH COMES OUT........

There's a lot more truth out there, weapons, and it isn't going to take an episode of CSI to uncover it.

Seems there may have been numerous reports for this particular little darling removed by some filtering mechanism between the match day paperwork being submitted and being filed at HQ. I stress it is all rumour and speculation at this stage, but one has to wonder when an umpire and a bruised/bloodied victim turn up at the tribunal only to be asked what they are doing there as there was no indication of any reports. Pointed questions are being asked, as well they should be.

We don't need this sort of stuff anywhere near suburban footy, especially at a junior level.

gee whizz......it just say's alot when the umpire resign's......after in my opinion he did the right thing.....(not that i was there)

and your right it stinks of corruption!!!!

whats the coach in questoin's prior history.....can we get that out in the open????

No relation to these people at all, or either club, merely took my kids down to the park & was watching a game of footy.
Actually worked at the league a few years ago on work exprerience & i see nothing has changed since then.

Would love to know where you are all getting this information from as i know from a reliable source that this coach has not been suspended as a coach this year.

Things like this are very negative for the people concerned, the clubs & the league & people wonder why this league cannot recruit the high calibre of players that other leagues do. Why the league cannot get ex-afl players to come to this league. Why we have always been seen as the "thugs" of metropolitan football. Negative publicity like this does nothing to help rid the league of this reputation.
Surely the incident at port colts v spotswood grand final a few years ago where the riot squad was called was a more severe incident than this, yet that wasnt given the media scrutiny that this has & what did the offending player get? A few weeks for jumping the fence (amongst other things)...you want to talk about sweeping things under the carpet??????

FFF - Agree this is not the only incident, and yes probably been worse in the last few years. But the difference here that it involves a Junior Coach, the coaches younger brother who was originally sent off and then returned to the ground starting the melee.
No-one wants to see this in footbal, especially in junior football. My understanding is that this particular coach is a hot head and this is not the first time he has faced the tribunal as a coach.

Then there is the fact that the mother of the said coach and player is also on the WRFL Exectutive.

Now this may be coincidence only, but you would have to agree that there is a conflict of interest here. Perhaps this case should have put before the IHC, but then again even the IHC found this coach not guilty earlier this year when charged with abusing an umpire - reported that time by a seasoned senior WRFL Umpire, not a fresh faced recruit. Why did that case go before the IHC?

Theres smoke smouldering so just sitting here waiting for the fire to erupt.

Interessting point CONFLICT OF INTEREST.
there a 3 current board members with CONFLICT OF INTEREST.
One is a parent of current players in the league
one is an Umpire in the league
and the last one is a DIRECTOR of a sports club where it's
football club plays in the league.

Do the clubs voting these people to their position look at this or do they vote for the sake of it
