Just looking at the lists of GWS and GC and the appeal of GC i cant see any of them wanting to leave.

We have pick 11 in a shallow draft which will be a average player or good one at best. our Salary cap has been tightened due to martin and co.

The allure of punt road is not as strong as Hawthorn with plenty of space with buddy going, collingwood .. won't say more, carlton who always beat us and thats more appealing when it comes down to it. Barret and plough AND DONT SAY THEY KNOW NOTHING cause its there bloody job to find out this stuff and they say we cant afford Adams so God help us when Ellis and Vlas come out of contract in the next two years

just dont think we can compete with the AFL funded clubs

Richmond has a massive appeal for most players and I have no doubt hat as we continue to grow both on and off field we'll be one of the favoured destinations for many years to come.

Funnily enough and as obvious as it is the AFL overlooked this... they're always too worried about propping up the interstate teams particularly the market in NSW. What Vlad didn't count on is Sydney/GC exploiting what they were given (free agency and draft raping, cost of living allowance etc) and now its past the point of being "equalized". The playing field is now way too in favor of these teams as they are given concessions with little or no rules to make sure they don't exploit them. If an extended Sydney/GC dynasty happens then ultimately the downward attendances and ratings in Victoria will screw the game 10 times harder than if Sydney/GC were only semi competitive and that much smaller market dropped off a bit.

Think we are definitely on the right track. Read something on one of the trade discussion threads with people freaking out because Chapman has been linked with us they thought we had gone away from a 'youth policy'. Yeah well, check out the average age of the list. They are all pretty young, with only Newy and Kingy the regular seniors getting old. Don't count A.Edwards as he is fringe. We will continue to add quality youth through the draft and fill needs through trade and free agency.

If we get Adams, then fantastic. If we don't then we will get a quality kid. I think we are well placed as our young guns get more and more big game experience and more pre-seasons under their belt. It won't get any easier as the whole comp looks to improve but we have a lot of upside based on our performances this year. Other than Jackson, Grigg and Houli (and these guys could improve on some aspects but I think we know what we get with them), I think almost every other regular senior player has the capacity to play a hell of a lot better.

• JR becoming a bit more selfish (never thought I'd need to say that),
• TV getting bigger and imposing himself more,
• Vlas with a full pre-season,
• Ellis with another one will be better,
• Conca hopefully not as interrupted,
• Titch improving more (I hope - not sold),
• Grimes actually delivering,
• Rance improving his 1 on 1 aerial work
• Maric being injury free or close to it
• Morris improving his offensive output (already gun defender when ball is contested)
• Knights actually being injury free

There are also guys who could improve a heap such as Batch, Astbury, Griff, Elton, Arnot, Petts and of course McBean but most of these are either not walk up senior players or may not be at the club next year. The vast majority of these guys will improve (should) and this is a situation that may not be replicated at many clubs. It will be at GC and GWS but they are still starting from a way back.
I'm not talking flag in 2014 but we would be being a bit weak if we were not aiming (privately) for top 4 next year. Our best football has been good enough to beat anyone in the comp. Our capacity or lack thereof to run out games of football or play our best for long enough is all that held us back this year. I believe that better fitness will help along with the belief that must be instilled by the coaches and leaders in the team.

I think next year we should be aiming for top 4/to win a final. I think if a lot of things go our way, we could challenge for a flag but I'm not sure we have the right maturity and experience in the team just yet to win the big one. I'd hope 2015 is when we can be a genuine chance for the flag (top 2 ladder finish etc)

Didn't Ellis sign a 5 year deal? I know Deledio signed a long deal.

I believe Ellis was 2
also people need to take into account, he said accept anything reasonable put on the table. I think he'll be worthy of a more valuable contract but I can see him taking a little cut if it means the team is better suited for a premiership.

IMO I had put us down this year to finish either 8th spot or below. Reason due to our age and lack of pre seasons into our kids. Ie keep in games but cant put them away. The improvement surprised me! So next year I was be stunned if we don't make finals. Across Every KPI we are a top 6 side. I would bank or anything from 4-6 being acceptable.

As to flags, our window is open as soon as we start taking our chances and hit top 4. Then anything can happen. remember, this year we were only 2pts away.

It is most certainly not 2014, not yet.

People need to rewatch the 2013 final and they'll see why.
We were more than 30 points up with less than a half to go and lost by 20 points. To put that in perspective, that's more than a 50 point turn around in less than a half, play like that for an entire game and you lose by 100 points in a final, against a side that finished 9th. And for those that say it was only one game, that's exactly what finals are, you only get one shot, and you have to be successful on at least 3 given days to win the flag.

We still have too many fringe players on our list, we don't yet have the depth to win a flag.

2015 onwards, if we trade/draft/develop well over the next 18 months.

2014 we should be aiming to consolidate our position in the lower half of the 8 and win a final. Another 20+ games plus preseason into our players

2016 on we should be looking at premierships. Most of our players would be 4-7 year players with 100-200 games under their belts.

Your club is in the best shape it has been in for 30 years and it's still on the up, try and enjoy the ride that's what it's really about. Scaling the mountain is the most exciting time IMO, your club has been kicking arse the last few years.

No major reason at all why we can't win a flag next year. Plenty of teams can say that, but we are capable of beating anyone.

We only need to be able to produce the type of footy we did against Carlton in the final during the 1st 2 quarters for a whole game.

You have to consider that at the end of that period a lot of our blokes will be offered massive money as free agents too.
