after enjoying a great day at the races yesterday and regulary attending the races ive been considering getting a membership. i see you have to be nominated and paying a joining fee, which is no biggy, but i cant find any info about a full membership. i see it takes about 2 years to be offered a full membership and i was just wondering how much it costs. what are the other pluses of being a full member?

You get reciprocal rights and are able to purchase a reasonably cost-effective guest pass for another person to join you (which helps because if you don't have friends who are also members then it can be rather pointless).

You are also able to access some of the more exclusive sections of the course like purchasing car park lots and getting all your buddies in there.

Reckon the main benefit you get is having the ability to do the car park thing in the nursery or birdcage (prefer nursery). Did it for four years straight on Cup Day and was gold.

Not sure about the cost effectiveness of the guest pass as it is exactly the same price as the full membership now so haven't taken that option since about 2002 when it was about $100 cheaper. From memory Full Membership is currently about $350 per year.

It's also a little more civilised in the Members Grandstand than out in the public. Easier to get a beer and put a bet on too.

I'm currently using a restricted guest pass and it definitely wasn't the same as the membership price, but it might be different when it's no longer restricted.
