I was looking through the stats in the Sunday time this arvo and what stood out to me was his 25 possesions in barely more than half a game.

A fair effort by himself, the coaches and medical staff

Fletcher had very little impact.

Most of his touches were won by cruising past the back of a pack and taking advantage of others' hard work.

Fletcher dropped off pretty badly in the second half of 2005.

He needs to step it up a notch.

Fletcher disposal may be ordinary but he makes up for it with his marking capabilities, probably one of the best marking midfielders of his size ive seen for a while, similiar to Cousins in a way except I think he is a better marker of the football, play Fletch closer to the forward line IMO.

Fletch a good mark?

Are we talking about the same one?

For a guy who had no pre-season I was more than impressed with his 65 minute run.
Better than being swamped & completely lost in the pace. Shows class to get straight back into it without even a practice match.

He is an outside player who is a natual ball magnet so i have no problem with that.

Where he does need to "step up a notch" probably is in his diposals which has been poor for most of his career and got shown up in the Grand Final

i agree with that.

His disposal is extremely inconsistent. One kick nails the guy on the chest on the run, the next kick he shanks and bounces about 10m from where he intended it to.

But having only seen little bits of the game (I'm still trying to get a replay on Fox) he did do very well given his pre-season.

If Fletcher is at the peak of his game it's only good for our team as he is an All Australian but more importnatly he takes the focus of Judd and Cousins.

yeh he has said the same thing on another thread, still can't understand it. I don't recall ever seeing him take a contested mark. One of the worst marks in our side IMO.

are you people for real, are you actually saying fletcher is not in the best 22 at the eagles, you have to be joking....

If he is not in the best 22 who should come into the side to replace him

his disposal isnt that bad, its good most of the time, and excellent when hes on form. many times hes been BOG for the eagles, and adds so much when hes in there.

and as for being an outsider, well you need a mix of both for a successful side.

you also underestimate his ability around packs. he is very good at positioning himself to help his teammates out in the clinches, putting a shepard in close then sweeping wide when its time to clear.

hes an important part of our midfield setup, and a genuinely class player.

Fletcher's disposal is another one of those myths... He has very good disposal, particularly off his left obviously. Sometimes he let's himself down but I cant name a player who has never shanked a kick. He is extremely important to our midfield set up.

Every team needs outside midfielders and thats what Fletcher is but he is a ball magnet which makes him better than most and why he earned AA a few years back.

I was impressed with his game given his very short preseason.
