Let's just hope that they can learn from and be inspired by this, one of the greatest places on the surface of the planet. If only people had an ability to be inspired that is equal to there ability to destroy...

I wish I was there. I can guarantee, without a shadow of doubt, that I would not stop for a single second... I could teach any interested person so much about the history of this planet in this place, and about themselves, AND HAVE DONE SO BEFORE IN THIS PLACE, if I was present. What a beautiful, what a magnificently important part of this world. Come on you bastards!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Training camp

I remember my family trips to the flinders fondly, camping at Wilmington, going to Alligator Gorge, heading up to Quorn to go on the Pitchie Ritchie. beautiful country, can't wait to take my kids up there to give them the same memories i have.

Re: Training camp

I love it up there and have gone camping up there ever since I first arrived in SA back in the mid 80's (lured by the sight of the wildflowers in late Spring).

I also remember the team travelling to NZ for some full on pre season action / bonding in 2004, our GF year. Mt Remarkable and surrounds wouldn't even figure as a pimple on the bum of deep South NZ, but I hope they get something out of it.

Watch it: your pimple is young and without character. Ours has been around for a long, long time and has a story to tell: the story of life. :p

Heh heh. We were joined at the hip once you know.

No, I was actually meaning as a challenge in the local conditions. I remember some of the boys coming back and talking about the challenges they were given in NZ and that some very close calls were had. A little hill like Mt Remarkable is not quite in the same league. However having to stretcher up car tyres is remarkable in itself (I hope they brought them back down with them) ;)

Well only the Southern Island actually, the other bit is part of the Pacific plate, but yes, there's no such thing as a mountain over here...

What about St Mary's Peak? :)

Incorrect I'm afraid. I think you'll find that the entire North Island is in the Australian Plate whereas the South Island is split down the middle (the Alps) with the west in the Australian Plate and the east in the Pacific plate. This is why there is so much earthquake activity down there, the two plates rub against each other at varying timings.

Further information available upon request.

Re: Training camp

^i stand corrected, it is roughly 20 years since i did any geology.
