Recently, teams have pushed numbers into our forward line and it is impossible for the forwards to find space. I know of only one way to stop "the flood", kick over their heads, but that could be a formidable task too, seeing as though we don't have many penetrating kicks in our midfield.

Your thoughts.

When we were winning, we beat the flood by winning the centre break contests and moving the ball quickly through the midfield. Also we have Tarrant Didak Lonie Fraser and Rocca who regularly scored from outside 50, so we did not need to carry the ball all the way to the goalsquare every time, making flooding more difficult.

Now that our midfield has been shut down, the forward supply has dried up and slowed down. Simple as that. The midfield has to lift. Flooding has nothing to do with our poor form. Its opposition midfields playing better than ours.

We also beat the flood from the Half Back Line, running it through the centre and pumping it inside the Forward 50, quickly...

This is it. Win the centre. It helps if you win the ruck. It isn’t essential but it helps a lot in the long run. Quick clean delivery from the bounce is the best way to give the forwards their best chance at winning the ball. After the bounce we have also struggled to win contested ball in the midfield as well as up forward. We need our intensity to be high to win which has been the case all through MM's time at Collingwood. It's a reflection of the lack of natural talent on the list and the arduous game plan but the only way for us given what we have at our disposal.

Not being outnumered two to one would be an advantage. Fanning or T Cloke need to play this week.
I don’t think Fanning is up to it. If we had a 2002/3 Rocca with our current forward options that would be ok but I don’t think Rocca can do it any more. C3 probably isn’t ready yet. C2 is out. The only second ruck option we realistically have is Richards and he’s been disappointing. Given what we have at our disposal we are up against it. backing Richards is probably now our best bet to put together a lineup that can make an impact in the finals. What we need is a first ruck with Fraser as the forward and second ruck option for next year.

The safe bet is T Cloke. Fanning needs to improve.

I understand your point, but it's pretty complex if teams are pushing numbers in our forward line. Rocca gets out numbered 1-2, Tarrant presents up the ground, Fraser plays in the ruck, consequently, Didak and Davis are taking out of the picture because they can't find space. We need to bring in another ruckman, like Timmy from Thomastown said. I'd elect Richards, but he is carrying an injury presently. T Cloke is the next option.

He was in the best players last week and T Cloke has been disappointing. Richards is injured as is C Cloke. Against a big log like Sandilands I think Fanning is worth a punt in being selected this week. It may be a long shot, but why not. Fanning does have youth on his side.

CORRECT!!! Midfield is getting smashed and they need to win the ball and when they do have it run down the lines and pump it long.

Fair comments. I think I'd need to look at the balance of the Freo side. I haven't really bothered with them this year. In principle I agree we need another ruck option I'm just cynical we have a viable one. Happy to give Fanning another chance if he is in form though.
