Heard they were going to play him last week but because of the break decided it would be best to rest him for one more week (2 including the break). Should be right to play and hopefully no more set backs.

this man will once again rise to prominence in the afl's supreme midfielders once fully fit and in-form.
the only bad games i can ever remember seeing him play were when we were absolutely smashed, and when he was tagged.
considering the names in our midfield in the coming years, expect quality output for axel week in, week out for a while...he won't be getting heavy attention anymore.
****ing exciting.

Foley is a gun. Whilst Martin grabs the ball and breaks thru the tackles with strength and determine, Foley can grab the ball and be thru the traffic before anyone can realise. Foleys delivery is better than Martin, IMO, because he creates more space before his disposal. Cotchin is reading the play well, but not having the impact that Dusty does (even tho he Cotch has the clearance stats to say otherwise), he is quality workhorse.

We all know that recently we've won or been very competive with the clearances (centre and stoppages), but the test is when we start playing the better teams, and we don't get that dominance that we have had.

i would play him, but give him a break once every month. Get him ready for next year. Once Taylor and Griffiths kick a few goals each our forward line will be better. We just need to draft 1 or 2 outside midfielders. Tambling should also give it a shot next year.

I read some where that the coaching staff have teamed Foley up with Andy Collins at training to speed up Foley's progress. They think if Foley can spend as much time as possible shadowing Andy not only will his fitness improve but he will be back to his elite form by the time he is ready to play again.

Just another example of Andy being the ultimate team player and sacrificing his time and superior skills for the club. The coaching staff have Andy book marked to join the leader ship group in 2012.

Such a vital part of our next few years IMO... must get him fit.

A couple of seasons ago, other teams would have come into Tiger games & their prime mid stopping plans would have centered around Foley & Deledio.

Now Lids looks very much at home of half-back and we now have some control on how the ball gets out of our back line.
In the middle we now have Cotchin & Martin commanding prime taggers with Cousins still floating around & Tuck & Jackson doing grunt work + Edwards & Collins providing peripheral polish.

Drop a fit Foley back into the mix & our midfield talent goes up another notch.

Foley is a forgotten man outside Punt Rd to some degree so it will be a revelation when he comes back better than ever.

Can't wait to see Axel spending significant game time with our new look midfield, scary to think we could go up a notch or two from where we are! :thumbsu:

So where do we think he ranks in our midfield rotation?

Peronally I'd have him starting in middle with Cotch and Martin, with Tuck rotating in off half back and Jackson on the Bench.

Once Foley gets back to full fitness, if I had to rank them I'd go:

Cotchin
Foley
Tuck
Martin*
Jackson
With Edwards/Lids/Tambo/King getting a run when required.

*The only reason I don't have Martin higher is that while he should start each quarter in the middle, at this stage he is more of an impact player, and doesn't have the tank to run out games. Will be equal 1st with Cotch in a few years imo.

I hope the club is keeping a tight rein on Axel. He will be itching to play but if he is anything less than 100% over his issues, they should keep him on the sidelines. For the rest of the season if necessary.

With his history, I hope we are ultra conservative this year. I could think of nothing better than for him to start the next pre-season at career peak fitness.

still remember the state of origin match.

foley did not look even a little out of place amongst the elite midfielders of the comp
He barely played half the game too.

If we want the PP and come last keep him on the sidelines for the whole year. Or play him at Coburg and say he's slowly getting back to playing afl. Next year our midfield will be very exicting.

Haha, very true! If we add a fit and firing Foley to the mix we'll probably finish 13-14th. No need for any of that kind of nonsense...
