Footy Fanatic: 2013 List Project

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

For those who care - seems not many, so far I've added every player to the database. Right now, I'm playing a career with the 16 teams minus GC/GWS and updated players. Each player has been updated with correct height/weight/position 1, 2 & 3/key or non key/career games, new players (since '09) have had their junior details added and debut years, rookies are listed as so, player numbers are correct, players are matched to their teams and I've scaled back debuts and birthdates so they appear in game at the start of a save as old as they currently are.

That's the boring, dense, awful stuff. What I haven't done is the semi-fun part; rating the players. If anyone wants to help with that, it'd be great.

I'm happy to upload my current database for anyone to use - it'd mean you could rate the players and not have to add them in. I've got two - one with the 16 teams, and one with the 18 teams. I'm sure you could move things around such that the suns/giants were included in the 16 career mode teams. I intend to see if I can edit the game so it's an 18 team league but I'm not sure if I could, I doubt it.

I do intend to upload the complete product for anyone to use once I've done the ratings too, and I'll leave an email in case the upload site fails/downloading fails, then I can just re-upload. I do plan to continue this for 2014 etc. if there's sufficient usage :)!

Gonna give this a little bump - does anyone want to just rate a list of players out of 100 for me (i.e. someone do the 40 players at geelong or you know, rate a team list)? Ablett'd be a 98/99, Watson a 95, franklin a 97 but someone like Ed Curnow only a 75 or something. A 2nd round draftee would average about 55. I think that's how the ratings'll work anyway. I'll scale if need be.

All good if nobody's keen but it wouldn't take long and it'd help me out heaps, especially for clubs I'm not too familiar with. Doesn't require game knowledge, just afl knowledge!

Thanks bud. I'll probably have to scale those as the distribution's a bit off (looking at somewhere around 1.5%+95, 5%+90 14% +85 or something and you've got 40% +85. Doesn't do the elite players like cloke and pendles justice when people are so close to them) but I can definitely work with those and apply a little bit of maths to space them out a bit.

Much appreciated! I'll keep in touch with you all about progress.

I did essendon myself yesterday which means this is really good - I've got someone to compare notes with. We're actually very similar - I think I've rated Winderlich well above you and Fletch well above you but they're the only discrepancies. I'm not sure you've got the whole potential thing right though as I'm pretty sure most players who are 18-19 will improve a good bit over time, just with natural progression. Bit harsh on Daniher don't you think :p - I had him at 96 potential.

Anyway, here is a little sheet I've done comparing our notes

d04fbd80f5bf5f3441d95ee8208465c7.png

I've been aiming at 80 being my midpoint for 'the average rating of the best 22 players' for each team across the board. Obviously someone like Hawthorn might check in at 84 while Melbourne might scramble to 76. This should be enough of a difference to cause noticeable performance differences.

Currently my score for Essendon is 81.3 while yours is 79.0 - which really means you've done just as good a job as I with these ratings despite not even knowing what you were aiming for. I'd probably want Essendon at 80.8 or something so I'll need to lower Fletcher to 83 and Winders to 73 to get there for mine. Then I'll scale yours up slightly to get it to achieve the 'magic number' and then rate players with discrepancies based on half your/half my ratings.

It's much appreciated what you've done; they're exactly what I'm after and I massive help so thanks, a bunch. If you want to do any more, you're welcome to but don't feel obliged! If you do, just continue doing it the way you're doing as they're a massive help to me :D

Great stuff by not having played the game i went by the collingwood example and I thought peak was the above average in a game not overall so Ill adjust for the next team :thumbsu:
Ill just keep working through the teams and post them when I get each one done. Ill start at Adl then Bris and so on !

Fantastic lad. The more lists I get the greater the sample for ratings and the less my personal bias is involved :p

I've already got 6-7 copies from people on other sites which is fantastic so the more the merrier - and hopefully the quicker the ratings get done.

Great work mate. Hopfully this gets finished. :thumbsu:

It will mate, don't worry. I haven't spent over 100 hours on this to leave it half done :p

It's just really boring to do so I struggle to motivate myself and get through 3-4 teams a day. I'm currently working at one club a day so it's probably 2 or so weeks away before I ask for some people to test it through and let me know how the ratings go a few seasons down the track or whether there are some incredible over/underperformers (i.e. in a run through Jobe Watson despite being 96 would only get 14-16 touches a game tops. Turns out if a player's special ability is 'runs/works hard' - they can't buy a disposal in the midfield irrelevant of talent. Strange. I'd be looking for 'bugs' like that from testers). Hopefully 2-3 weeks after I've opened it up to testers and fixed the errors I'd release it publicly. If it gets enough interest and usage I'll continue it every year.
