Not sure in which thread to slide this, please feel free to move if mods find a home for it.

I've been pretty fit and active for several years.

Decided to play footy this year. The fitness plan was insane.

Essentially for the past 5 months I've been doing gym 3 times a week, plus footy training twice a week. It's all cardio intensive, although the gym is weights obviously.

My dimensions prior to training were:

173cm 75.5kg

My dimensions 5 months after footy training are:

173cm 70kg

I've dropped 5kgs due to football!

The pluses:

- lost all fat, more defined body, six-pack returning after 10 years, can run faster, never been fitter in my life (got 14.5 on the beep test last week)

The downsides:

- lost my mass, can't fill a shirt, dropped belt size

I calculated that at the current rate of exercise I need to eat 3,500 calories to put weight on. I already eat about 3,000 calories a day, the only extra I can think of is buying a mass gain shake and drinking that every day.

The coach doesn't want me to put weight on as he wants me to be a runner.

But not sure I want to be this lean (and thin).

What would you do if you were in my shoes? Put weight on at the risk of reducing speed/athleticism, or stick to the lean build?

For sport your aim should be functional muscle opposed to muscle bulk n size hence why bodybuilders aren't highly sought after by AFL recruiters.
