What are the injuries you have got playing footy?

This year was my worst by far, I missed over half the season with injuries, and I just couldn't get any form going.

Started off the year by dislocating some fingers, then got knocked out by my old team. Strained my latteral ligament in my left knee, then came back, did the same injury to my right knee, and re-did it again. Missed the remainder of the season, including finals. Now I can barely kick a footy without my knee killing me.

So I had a shocking year...what are your footy injuries?

Lucky for me I havent had any major injuries just yet. But I am only 15, got a lot ahead of me, lol.

I have never actually missed a game through injury, but I did struggle through the first five games this season having to kick it on my left foot on most occasions and falling over when I kicked it on my right, I looked like an idiot. :p

And then I totally out of form for the rest of the season with the captaincy thrown on my shoulders too which I just couldnt handle.

Well i've had ankle problems, and knee problems all through my time playing the game.
My knee has never got back to full strength, even after not playing all last year.
I've dislocated fingers, but thats to be expected, not even a real injury if you ask me...just pop it back into place and off you go again.

Yeh bit like that, lol. Well our captain was out injured for the first eight weeks, in that time I polled about 3 votes in the best and fairest which was ****. He came back for the last 5 games and I got another 9 which was better.

I don't get injuries....I give them!!!

lets see

numerous dislocated fingers

dislocated shoulder - had to have reconstruction, helped a bit, but my shoulder is very 'loose' and i can basically dislocate my shoulder whenever i feel like it.

I have serious knee trouble which stems from something that happened when i was 6:
I was playing footy at school, and it was early in the year and we had a concrete cricket pitch which hadnt been covered with sand yet....anyway running to get the ball i got tripped up flew 2 metres forward and landed on my left (kicking) knee....doctors thought i may of needed a complete reconstruction of that (at the age of 6!) but i didnt. Went to the physio about 2 years back and found out that my kneecap is permanantly slightly out of place, so i have to do these 'exercises' before playing footy where i have to push or force my kneecap over to the right and hold it there for 3-4 minutes.
Because of that accident, my left knee is very achy all the time, especially in winter, i struggle to walk down stairs.

Ive hurt my back before and could hardly walk for a week or two but that wasnt anything serious....then all the little things like sprained wrists, sprained ankles etc.

people wonder why i stopped playing footy!!! Im bloody unlucky!!!

My first major injury came this year...my 5th year of footy. I tore my MCL, ACL and LCL ligaments in my right knee. Did some other damage to that knee aswell in just 5 seconds like cartilage damage and my Lateral Meniscus torn aswell. The op was a big one, he didn't need to reconstruct the MCL or LCL but fixed the rest of the knee up.

Its going really really well at the 17 week mark. There were no clots after the op and there was no infection. Been on the bike and running. Been on the bike a lot and will be in the pool when it opens. I had my op back in July and my goal to come back to footy is the first week of May, which would be the 10 month mark. Will find out next year if I am to use the full 12 months. But as I was 17 when I did this damage and now 18, I am young and it will heal better apparently. We'll soon see.

Apart from all the strains and general injuries I've broken my wrist, thumb and nose playing footy; and also developed a hematoma(?) blood clot in my calf after receiving a major corky...so yeah that's about it.

Well I have dislocated my knee 6 times since june 2000.Extremely painful both physically and mentally.Had 3 scopes and a patella realignment done on it and am still going to physio twice a week.I have a 15cm scar and im told i still limp.It looks more like a water balloon than a knee and im pissed off. Also had broken rib and bruzed lung before.;)

Where do I start?

Strained my groin at my FIRST ever TRAINING session, tried to carry it through the season. Couldn't. Made it worse. Season over. 4 months before i could play sport again. That was '98.

I at least got through some games OK in 99. Then.....back-related hammy, hip probs, back probs, constant physio.

Last year - 'scope on knee - found to be stuffed. knee cap aligned (dogboy23?), floating crap everywhere, 7 months before sport, and even then, very tentatively! Pretty good now though.

I'm hoping to finally do a full pre-season and play next year - I'm sure the docs/physios around here will be rubbing their hands together with glee! :( :( :D

hitman,i played in a side that finished last or second last 5 years in a row and was getting flogged every week, except for a grand final loss the year before that run started,i havent really had the chance to play in many other grand finals
realistically we are both in the same both i guess when it comes to grand final success:(
the team i played for one the flag this year, although because of my injury ive missed the last one, weve been in the last 6 grand finals for 2 wins
:( :(

Being in the Aaron Lord, Paul Hudson vein (i.e. buggered if I was going to go in for the hard ball) I went through my competitive football days without so much as a twinged hammy. I think my worst injury was a sprained wrist!

Then of course last year having a friendly kick to kick at Brunswick St Oval, I fractured a finger.
