Remember when you use to be able to go to the footy and watch the reserves. I use to go early and watch the under 19's reserves and seniors. It was great to watch future champions coming up.
I support the roos and I remember Arch Stevo Mighty Mick Schwatta Rocky etc in the under 19 and reserves.

Footy now I think has lost a little bit of magic.

The old days were value for money and a whole day affair.

And remember when the crowd used to boo the umps when they walked on to the ground. There would be that great atmosphere before the first bounce. Supporters would also cheer the banners going up too, which added to the atmosphere. None of this happens now. Now when the ball is being bounced to start the match if you weren't watching you really wouldn't know the game had started. Bring back the reserves matches. This would create a great build up.

Sounds like you are speaking of those great days of yore when kiddies could run onto the ground after the game and pat their heroes on the back.

.... These last few years my team has had their best run for the last two decades. But honestly these days I care less and less about the game, as it is often as dull as dishwater to watch, there is too much stuffing around to go to a game, it is too expensive, stats are over-analysed, the sport is over-reported and the actual matches are being overshadowed by so much irrelevant, peripheral bulldust that the whole thing has become a tiresome yawn.

Footy is becoming a boring predicable sport. I used to watch all the games on the weekend..well most of them.

Now i only watch the swans and that in itself is a bore.

What is happening?

I agree with Sandeano.

Can I add, for 2-3 years now I've considered soccer my no.1 sport. I'm sick to death of the overpolicing ways of the AFL, hell they even want to control the amount of sunlight let onto the ground now! I've no idea where it will end.

But thankfully, the passion will NEVER wane in world soccer.

Aspects of the game that are being phased out:

shirtfronts
punchups/melees
speccies - less kicking to contests
freak goals - team rules, center the ball
alchohol - $4 for a cup of bloody light beer at night games!
larrikins - players are all looking for the corporate $ image

I could go on, but these are the main reasons why the game is slowly losing it's appeal to me.
