Just got home from work, turned on TV, saw the Hawks v Crows match discussed.

Okay, discussion is a bit of a stretch. How about some dumbass player fresh out of media training who couldn't be bothered preparing anything about the match.

Uh, Jacky playing, uh uh

As if there weren't a dozen things to discuss about the match - Dangerfield, Jacky, last week's win, the hawks, Buddy Franklin, Massie not playing, injuries, young team flying along.

Instead, we get Sam Newman's arse and endless Foxtel plugs. No wonder i prefer Footy Confidential. And what did they do last week that made Caroline Wilson so mad?

The only thing that has changed is that they don't always show the Crows game last any more.

If they actually talk football, it is victorian football only.

actually, they only didn't show it last because we're playing a victorian team. i think they showed the sydney vs west coast game last (two non-victorian teams)... and yes, Cam Mooney is a footy show noob - "Jacky will be making his debut...and Patrick Dan...what's his name again....gerfield, the son of.... i doubt either will make their debut this week; i was actually pleased when Sam Newman (of all people) mentioned what a great game the showdown was.

i also mentioned the same thing when Dal Santo covered the crows game this year and knew nothing ... because i remember him mentioning the crows had some big ins that week, which included Jericho, and did not mention the loss of Reilly, which IMO is a huge loss. but response from others here was that these guys have better things to do than research the game, ie, prepare for the own game this weekend. they're not there to comment on the games, they're there to look good - Dal and Cam...

same goes with sunday footy show; non-victorian games are covered last and in much less detail.

I was actually going to come on here to vent my spleen about this too but was hypnotised by the shitness of it all and fell to sleep. My highlight was "and the outs are ummmm ..." "did you even see them cam?" "Nup"

Footy Show is basically a tugfest for Victorian sponsors and prettyboy players and has been for years.

I guess the main question is why would you look to the footy show for serious footy discussion?

They only ever spend 2 minutes talking about the games.

Agree completely. The Footy Show is just light entertainment it isn't an indepth look at the game and the teams for the week, never really has been.

The show has certainly become a disgrace, Brayshaw and Lyon have ruined it IMO, its just become a show about them trying to be funny, Sam Newman trying to be relevant and that bloke who comes on with the "big" footy story of the week is the only half relevant thing there. The players they have on do nothing except look pretty. I've just stopped watching it, the only problem is, is its about the only Footy show shown up in queensland.

Footy Classified isn't shown up here and the one time i watched it down in Adelaide, it was more than decent. Maybe they can replace the bunch of clowns that is the footy show, with Footy classified on thursday night and actually give us a decent preview of the matches and Hutchison(finally remembered his name) can get a big scoop about about a relevant "football" issue, not some off-field saga.

Watched the season opener in hope of getting a run down of the NAB cup and maybe discuss how Kurt Tippet almost became the first Michael Tuck medalist yet to debut, you know the next big thing... needless to say I fell asleep.

These shows - The Footy Show, Before the Game, they are intended to have a lot of banter and stuff that hovers on that sensitive line of what is acceptable. They throw a dash of footy in there but if you want a solid, down-to-the-point, detailed dissection of each game and issue, watch the shows that are intended to serve that purpose.

TFS and BtG are there for a laugh, and they're quite amusing at that (given I don't spend a lot of time worrying about being politically correct and so on - life's too short for that crap).

As bad as The Footy Show is Before the Game is worse. At least The Footy Show has people in the game, whereas Before the Game is just a bunch of Rove's mates who have no clue about football.

Totally agree, love a bit of political incorrectness everynow and then, but I'm struggling to even find TFS funny anymore, used to, loved it in '05/'06 when i started watching it. In saying that, I still find the Gary Lyon on the stretcher bit funny and when they did the hatchet jobs, but thats about it, poor old Trever Marmalade, just doesn't have any material anymore because they just don't discuss anything worth making a joke about.

Actually Trev is the one big downside imo, never really found him funny at all.

But yeah, I don't watch it for detailed football coverage because that is not what it sets out to do; it's a couple of hours of gags and throwing caution to the wind with what is acceptable and what is not. Good fun.

Edit: Seriously, this is almost like people demanding that Rove change his show into a 60 minutes/current affair session - THAT IS NOT WHAT THE SHOW SETS OUT TO DO!!

I used to watch the Footy Show every single week and loved it but I just don't find it as entertaining as I used to. Last Thursday I didn't bother watching any of it and tuned into to the Champions League hour. It has definitely gone down hill since Maguire left and this year hasn't been as good as last year IMO.

Sam made fun of Caroline's fashion sense by getting a maniquin (spelling?) and sticking Caroline's face on it, and putting a few different items of clothing (fishnets IIRC?) on it and putting it in a few suggestive positions. Also picked it up by the crotch. Gary seemed very nervous during the whole scene and kept suggesting Sam stop what he was doing.
