For all you David Teague i just wanted a few questions answered.

1. When was the last time he had more than 10 posessions in a game?

2. How many times has he had more than 10 posessions in a game this year?

3. Has there ever been a B&F winner who didn't poll a vote the following year?He will struggle to.

Relevance?

1 & 2 - he is a defender who has a job to stop opponents, not gather possessions across the back line. When was the last time Livingston got 10 possessions in a game? Too many people evaluate worth according to statistics. In the TBV voting, people continued to vote for Stevens for 20+ possession games when he was clearly down and many of the possessions lead to turnovers. Have to watch the game carefully to evaluate worth, not look at the stats sheet in the paper the next morning.

3. He will get votes. The Blues B&F doesn't employ a 3-2-1 voting system. I think they vote from 10 points down or something similar.

ODN, They vote 5 down to 1.

Agree with your reply. Defenders are there to stop opponents, not to gather possessions.

Ah that's right. There are several people voting though, is that right? I was just thinking that the winning totals are up around 160-170 votes. Surely out of 20 games or so, Teague would get at least 1 vote from someone who like last year, loves to see those one percenters.

As a guide, TBV has a 5 down to 1 voting system and Teague has polled a couple of votes there. That is by concensus too which is harder to score in than individual voting.

I thought Teague was one of our best on Sunday. It was the Teague of old really. It's odd that he didn't play like that all season...

IMO Teague has struggled playing on the bigger grounds week in week out this year. He played half his games in 2004 at Optus Oval, which really suited is game of sagging off his direct opponent.

Opposing teams have worked him out. They get a reasonably quick guy on him and then get on long direct leads and he struggles to keep up.

Which is exactly why North traded him - too slow to play on a small, to small to play on a tall. Not that we got anything out of that trade in the end. We gambled on the "x" factor Corey still "might" have, and we lost the gamble. But in Teague and Morrel we didn't lose too much.

Love Teagues courage, but only really suited to playing loose man in defence or smaller grounds where he can zone off without being exposed too badly. Would love it in Sydney.

How good was he when he coped that full on shirt front from Urch on Sunday, wore it, and just got on with the game. Tough as nails.

I'd be surprised if Carlton didn't hang on to him for a while at least. Sticks to the job, but will eventually be replaced by someone more suited I'd imagine.

The TBV voting system is far better than the actual B&F system. According to TBV Kouta should have 4 B&Fs by now.

ODN, I'm pretty sure the match committee vote after each game - of course. That would mean Pagan, Sticks, Libba, Trout and Mitchell would make up the 5 votes.

I think you'll find Teague has been a victim of our injuries and form drop off to key backmen this year (Norman, T-Bird and Livo). He really has been fighting out of his division all year. The game on Sunday against the Kangas was his best all year.

He really should be lining up on the 3rd - 4th best forward each week.

Fair enough, but I think you'll find even if you can fill the other 3 key defensive posts, he'd still be matched up on someone like Corey Jones, a medium sized forward, and he might break even there.

I think that's waht he found at North is that when we played a team without a "medium sized" match up, he was being dropped or left on the bench quite a bit. Carlton don't have many other options, so they through teague in there knowking he's punching above his weight but he will give his all.

I think if he was matched on someone like your man Fischer (sp?), who is meduium who plays tall and is pretty fast, teague would be exposed.

You saw his game on Sunday. Do you think he beat Corey Jones? (I did)

I thought it was about break even, and Teague relied on help from Thornton to get the job done.

Teague provided rebound off the back line though, which is his role it seems.

Jones had 13 touches, 4 marks, kick 1.2 so could have had a better day if he had of kicked straighter. These are the sort of stats I'd expect from Jones, except I'd normally expect 2-3 goals. So i wouldn't say he was beaten.

Did you think Fisher beat his man? He had 12 touches, 4 marks, kicked 3.2. I think he did well, finishing could have been better,

Roos 363 poss Blues 294
Roos 94 marks Blues 56

Fisher won his battle. Teague shaded Jones for mine.

I agree, but I find it bloody annoying. Teague should be the one helping out the other defenders, whilst Thornton does the rebuilding. It's screwed up. Hopefully our defenders learn their roles next season...

It was a pretty crappy day for our forwards. Fevola may have been playing injured for most of the season, and hence not having a lot of impact, but he makes a huge difference to our structure. Good on Fisher for getting a few kicks though. He'll welcome an injury-free pre-season...

Teague isn't a possession player, rarely any backmen is though. It's the things he does which doesnt count for possessions: tackles, helping his team-mate, sheperds and the other 1%ers

I think that what we have to look at is Carlton's slow defence. I just dont think David can get a regular game next year unless we can include some really quick defenders to compliment him.

With regards to the earlier posts about his not getting high possessions. I would have thought that given David plays off his man a fair bit and also this season has allowed his opponent some high possessions that he would need to get stats.

Once again like everyone else I love his courage and he has good hands in marking. Just too slow for mine. Could he play across half forward???

ope, hes not a very good goalkicker (as in a accurate kick for goal) but he could practice, but to late ow anyways, and i would never move teague from his possy down back, he has got great courage running back with the flight and he always puts his body on the line, and takes good marks deep down back that save us from the opposition scoring, i also think he is good under pressure and he willnever back away from a contest, thats why he is needed down back!
