I only took part in the Australian Maths comp. 3 times for one distinction and two credits. Not bad, but would have liked to have done a bit better.

LMAO!
Ironical that you brought that up!
Have a read of this!....:

Well im crap at maths. Really really bad. I prefer English.
Anyway, for the westpac maths this year, i had no idea for most of it, so i ended up guesing 95% of the exam! Doing patterns in the answering! lol (A C D C etc! :D lol) We got it back today, majority of the class received 'participation' certificates. A few more got 'credits.' Then the teacher called out "Nick Smart, would you please come up here!" oh sh*t i thought! What is he going to say 'lowest score ever?!'I walk up to the desk, "congratulation mr.smart!" i think what the hell? He hands it to me and it says in big letters....CERTIFICATE OF DISTINCTION!!!!!

I could not believe it! I had guessed 95% of the exam and had got a distinction! Top 10% of QLD! I still laugh thinking about it! And it all happened today! LOL! :D

LOOK UP FLUKE IN THE DICTIONARY, THERE IS A PICTURE OF ME SMILING WITH ME DISTINCTION!
:D

HAHHHAHAHA Nick that's wot i used to do....used to circle answer C all the time and be a smart arse in Psychology where everything was mulitple choice pretty much. I would talk all the time and not bother doing work so the teacher would ask me the answers "Jill could you tell me what answer you have please" and being the smartarse that i was "i'd say huh  oh CCCCCCCCCCCC of course" everyone would laugh and it would always be correct :D At times i was better off how i just handed the whole papers of the exams in covered in cirlcled C answers down the whole page

Are yall talking about the Uni of NSW tests? We started doing them in primary school and I always used to get High distinctions - it's all gone downhill from there...:D

I did get a distinction this year in maths and a few years ago I got a high distinction in the science test - too easy.

I got mine back today. I got the certificate anyway. A credit. I don't know what my results were. I guess a credit is pretty good but maybe my standards are too high, coz I got a distinction last year.

Ah, the old maths comp... 6 entries from 1990-1995, 6 distinctions. Funny thing is I then failed Mathematics 2 a huge total of SIX times when I was doing Electrical Engineering at uni. In fact, I was doing the subject so long they changed the name of it twice ;-)

and still haven't passed it, quit engineering 2 years ago and I don't imagine I'll ever want to do calculus that much ever again :D

In conclusion, maths comp = logical, everyday applications of maths = good. calculus = bad.

Ah the good old Westpac Maths comp!

Here were my results:
Year 7 - High Distinction
Year 8 - Distinction
Year 9 - Credit

I could see the trend was going downhill, and thankfully my school made it optional for students in Year 10-12 so I didn't do it again.

The ESSO science competition was a shocker for me, the highest I ever got was a Credit!

I did this nation wide Geography thing in yr 10 and got in the top 0.7 % of the country. I didn't do Geography the next year! :D
