If we trade:

Whitnall for Green

Pick 20 for Merrett

We could have a seriously good frward line, with Fevola, Green, Waite, Merrett, Betts, Fisher, Kouta and a resting rover (Stevens, Hurn :thumbsu: ).
I know that developing our backline is our main priority, but if we're not gonna win the flag next year so we should get what we can when we can for the good of the club.
I feel that with skinny we should try and lure a young, mobile defender, such as Sam Fisher or Ryan Ferguson, and maybe even Goddard (he is the same height as Whitnall, so a possible KPP). Ideally, Jarrad Rivers would be awesome to get instead of Green, but that is highly unlikely. If we were to attempt to lure oen of these young players, we would probably have to throw in sporn and/or houlihan along with lappin.

Thoughts?

If Carlton trade Whitnall for Green, it will bring us back to old glory days of trading for Mick McGuane. Green has shown very little and can only player HFF, while at least Whitnall can play defense. If we are to get rid of Whitnall it should be for a draft pick and a player like Ferguson/Jamar.

Even thorugh the trade of Whitnall: Fev at FF, Waite at CHF, Fisher as a 3rd Option and betts/houlihan (if he stays) in the pocket our forward line looks good for next year.

I agree. If Whitnall or Fevola go we need draft picks and a player, either a KPP or a ruckman. No flankers or forward pockets.

In my opinion providing no one gets traded.

HF: Waite Whitnall Fisher
F: Betts Fevola Davies

thats actually a very solid forward line.

Looks good mate. If Whitnall is traded then I think it should look something like this:

Hf: Fisher, Waite, Walker
F: Betts, Fevola, Koutoufides

I think Walker needs to develop into a wingman/midfielder and not spend time in the forward line.

Assuming Whitnall gets traded:
HF: Fisher, Waite, Koutoufidies
F: Betts, FEvola, Houlihan

Hopefully Houla stays and can play footy where he plays best - in the forward line!

houlihan is best suited to a FWD role, preferable HFF and at times rotating through the midfield.

im not sure about kouta as a HFF, i'd prefer him to be in a FP, so we can have a strong target 15m out
fev, waite and fisher do all the leading and kouta is the body on body option

agree with walker spending more time in the middle. i'd like to see him on a HBF

Agree on Walker but I don't think he will spend all day in the midfield. His height and agility would be a hard match up in the forward line. Houlihan will stay but I wish he didn't. Would prefer Kouta in the square with stints on the ball, maybe swapping ruck-rover with Walker. Would like to see Longmuir kick 25 goals next year from a flank/pocket.

If Prendergast stays (I think he has a year to run on his contract unfortunately) and if he plays in the senior side he should be used across half-forward to bash and crash. He is tall, fit, strong, a decent mark and will provide an option all the time if nothing else. He might take some pressure off Waite and Fisher by providing a bigger body in the forward line.

Maybe:
B: Camporeale, Livingston, Bryan
Hb: Thornton, Norman, Carrazzo
C: Simpson, Stevens, Scotland
Hf: Fisher, Waite, Longmuir
F: Betts, Fevola, Koutoufides

Foll: French, Walker
Rov: Bentick
I/c: Russell, Blackwell, Hartlett, S.O'hAilpin
* Well something like that anyway!

Alot depends on draft picks, PSD pick, delistings, etc but I hope Kouta and Walker spend time up forward, particularly Kouta much more. Walker I hope stops tagging and is allowed to attack. IF and ONLY IF Prendergast remains a CFC player next year I think he would be handy at CHF if our options for a big-bodied forward are limited. Maybe Bryan would be better in this role.

Really the only 4 players that will paly in the forward line are FEv, Waite, Fisher and Betts. Plays such as Kouta, Deluca, Longmuir etc will rotate throughout the forwardline to give guys like Waite and Fisher a rest. But geez I'm excited about Fisher, he is going to get the third best defender every week and could well kick 30-40 goals next year.

Yeah it's exciting isn't it! How good was he when he came back? Just awesome! Waite and Fisher are great contested marks and hopefully Fevola fires up and boots a heap. With guys like Walker, Longmuir, Kouta, Bryan, Deluca, Hartlett and Setanta rotating through the forward line, it suddenly looks dangerous. If nothing else they will be young, enthusiastic, competitive and exciting.

Yeah forward line does look awesome, unfortuantely our defence is in ruin and our midfield still needs some work done but will be very easily helped with the inclusions of Murphy and hopefully Hurn this year!

Ironically the forward line started doing pretty well when Fev was injured and the midfielders stopped kicking it to him. I think we need to work on our defence and midfield much more than on the forward line.

Thats really not the case.
Waite was playing well all year, with or without Fev in the team and Fisher only came in near the end when Fev was injured. Our forward line would be pretty weak without Fev.

Davies..............you've got to be joking. He'd be lucky to still be on the list IMO.

What have Norman & Longmuir done to justify their selections? The only thing that might save them from being delisted is their contracts and the fact we have to get rid of so many others.

Bryan in a BP......don't think so. Off the bench as back up Ruckman to French more like it.

Davies is finished. Whitnall should be traded considering "quality" talls are worth two first round picks eg. Ottens.

We won't get 2 first round draft picks for him - probably more like a Thompson trade (a first rounder and a second rounder)

Didn't give it too much thought mate. Just a rough team. Was mainly thinking about the forward line. Normo is the best choice for CHB based on talent IMO. Will be lucky if he's at the Club in 06. Bryan I put there simply becuase of his size and that he should be much bigger and fitter next year. I think he's very talented, is a good mark, very competitive and a huges kick, but who knows what will happen with our backline.

Fisher Koutoufides Waite
DeLuca Fevola Betts

** Koutoufides will/needs to give Fish & Waite at least another year experience, weight/muscle gain etc before they can put their hand up to play CHF. I would prefer to even look at Bryan or Prendergast(ducks for cover) to even pinch hit @ CHF before the two kids. Sentanta might be our "Earl Spalding" in the waiting also.
