firstly, is Daly still our forward line coach?

i dont want this to turn into a rant thread but a discussion about how our forward line can function at full capacity.
On thurs night, we had 9 marks inside 50, with that being spread between 5 players only. Carlton had 15 marks inside 50 spread between 10 players. That is a HUGE discrepancy, one that should have cost us the game, but fortunately didn't. (we had 0, yes 0, marks inside 50 in the second half)
against GC we had the exact same, 9 marks inside 50 from 5 people, whereas GC had 11marks from 6 players.
in our 2 games, we have totalled 18 marks inside 50, with 14 of those coming from Vick, Jack, Griff and Hampson (well he has taken only 1). The other 4 were 3 from Lids and 1 from Titch.
This is entirely not enough from our small forwards, which begs the question; are we intentionally ignoring our small forwards; not skilled enough to hit them up on the lead; or our small forwards just not presenting enough/correctly.
i know that people are going to bag guys like Grigg for his persistence for bombing into the forward arc, but for all the smalls in there, they are not getting into correct places or leading correctly to be used to take marks inside the forward 50. I think when Knights comes back he will help with that.
Lids, Cotch and Dusty are wonderful marks 1 on one, and Titch and Knights are great on the lead, why are we not exploiting their strengths by continually kicking to the tall timber, even though they are being outnumbered?
again, is this tactical, or a lack of skill/awareness from the players?

Daly isn't the coach.

I thought the forward line structure worked really well in the first half and even the 3rd quarter with Jack deep, Griff up at CHF and Tyrone also deep. Griff would lead up the wings and create space through CHF, Jack would lead into that space and then Ty would just fall into the hole behind Jack.

It worked because we moved the ball quickly. The last quarter we just started launching it long down the line and the ball moved way too slowly. The structure broke down because Jack would have to come up the ground to make a contest.

I will add I disagree Dusty is a wonderful one on one mark. He's like a mini-Buddy. He's poor above his head but he can use his strength to work a man under the ball and get goal side of him and burn him off that way.

Don't think the problem is the forward line structure so much as the movement to get it there....Somewhere between defense and entering the forward line, we stop, go backwards, fart around and generally give the opposition time to get back and crowd the defense.

Not sure if we need to leave another player forward (somewhere around HF) to link up or what, but that's where the problems always seem to happen.

Would help if we didn't just hand it off to Grigg so he can mindlessly bomb it long. When we have a mark 60 out, only use that as a last resort. Should always look for a short pass then kick long when the ump says play on.

When we actually move it quickly we hit up leads. See Riewoldt, Edwards, Vickery and Griffiths in the first half. We really need to find a way to be efficient going inside 50 when we don't have momentum or the game has slowed down. Constantly bombing it long doesn't cut it.

We already have 1, Daly. Get Voss in for the mids jobs and send Daly back to the fwd line.
Precisely. Get Williams into the VFL setup. Very good VFL coach. Not so much this level.

Worthwhile thread.
We get shitloads of ball around the park and plenty of inside 50's....

Start finishing off at a higher % and we will make good progress.

One of the reasons why Knights is best 22. Our best player at delivering the ball inside fifty. Always lowers his eyes, looks for a leading target.
