Yes of course he hasn't had to put up with that. Only Goodes who won 2 medals during that time (Harvey won his 2 before Hayes had ever polled a vote) and a spread of players good enough to take us to 6 finals campaigns and two GFs. Talentless lads at Sydney I know, you have all the stars, I stand corrected.

Of the players you mentioned, did you realize that Nicky Winmar finished his career before Hayes ever polled a Brownlow vote? (I think he was gone from the Saints before Hayes even made his debut). Nathan Burke and Andrew Thompson average less Brownlow votes than Kirk and Hayes, by a significant margin, so I'm not sure what they were "stealing" from that makes them worth a mention - pickpockets at best, hardly thieves. As for Paul Kelly? Only played one full season, his last in 2002, with Kirk as an established member of the team.

But, hey, thanks for taking the time to make a contribution.

Game. Set. Match! Great stuff mate;)

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Why did we draft Josh Willoughby? Scott Stevens? Why didn't we pick up the likes of Danyle Pearce, Jed Adcock etc etc etc

Why did other clubs allow Goodes to still be available at pick 43, Malceski at 62, O'Keefe at 54 etc etc etc

basically, when it comes down to it, you may as well close your eyes and roll a bloody dice, because there are that many examples of high draft picks who were useless and low draft picks who were awesome, its not funny. the importance of draft picks is IMO quite overrated.

But any Saints fans who feel the need to come on here and denigrate Brett Kirk for the sake of pumping up Hayes and ignorant and are wasting their time.

apologies, I missed that part of my post

Few years back probably Lenny would have been regarded as a great missed opportunity, while Fossie was prob seen as a work in progress that was taking too long. But since Roos took the helm Fossie has really improved dramatically since Roos lifted that constant pressure Eade applied to hold his spot. So much so that he was close to BOG in the 2005 Grand Final.

And thinking about the make-up of the currnent Swans list, another mid-paced midfielder (no matter how skilled Lenny is) prob wouldn't have been as useful as Fossie who not only has long distance credentials, but can also put on a turn of speed when needed.

And then there's the injuries Lenny has had. Probably tips the scale Fosdike's way once and for all.

But for all that, around the time of Lenny's last contract I would have welcomed the NSWelshman home with open arms. Unfortunately he's just that little bit too battleworn and expensive nowadays to entertain the thought.
