Anyone know why Foxtel is called Austar in the country?

Just guessing but it could be 1's cable while the other is satellite and the satellite version has more Aus government subsidys. 
They're completely different companies. Austar services regional areas, Foxtel metropolitan. They have different packaging, prices and may even have different channels.

it is to do with the old Optus and Foxtel Networks.
before Foxtel bought out Optus Vision, Austar would have a selection from both companies and broadcast it to rural areas.Is still a different company, but broadcasts the same as Foxtel

Austar doesn't broadcast the commercial channels; 7, 9 and ten.
Austar broadcasts the local area channels. Where i am thats basically 7 and 10.
