OK, now before anyone gets the wrong idea, there is no way I would take delight in a players injury but having said that, in light of our massive string of outs it's nice to not feel like lambs to the slaughter against a top side suddenly. I wish him a speedy recovery and Hawks supporters can take my comments as a massive compliment to their forward line which most would currently rate as possibly the strongest in the comp.

Every week has been a struggle to come up with a side which can cover opposition guns and Buddy and Roughy were always going to be a massive challenge in light of Reid's recent fragility and Brown and Taz struggling to get on the field. Buddy being absent looks like it might just even up the ledger a fraction. Suddenly what looked like being a massive mountain to climb might prove to be a more even contest and gives us some hope of regaining top spot on the ladder. That said, Hawthorn are a good side and will be no pushover with or without Buddy given the state of our list so we won't want to be taking them lightly just the same.

Next 2 to 3 weeks will tell the tale of Hawthorn.

Are they are one man team? Or the real deal? I feel a hell of a lot more confident of beating them now I can tell you that much.

Last time we played them without Franklin, we won by 9 goals.

does this also mean taz gets a few more weeks ?

yes he played forward in the 2nds this week, but like last time that tells me he's not ready. only once he's played a game in defence does he get considered. and with no buddy, our foil for him becomes a little less necessary.

just my take.

PNS - you are allowed a little fist pump in celebration. just dont show it ;)

lol, after the pillorying I got on the main and Carlton boards over my comments about Wellingham I will be doing no fist pumping.

Taz is an interesting situation. When all of our defenders are fit it's hard to see too many sides we'd go in against with so many talls down back. Add to that the speculation in regard to Trav along with the combined form of our KPF's and it's not too hard to imagine why Taz might be honing his forward skills. I know that's extreme speculation but it's certainly not beyond the realms of possibility. Let's face it, outside of Trav, Dawes and Goldy, what do we really have by way of KP forward depth?

yes & no. IMO ruckman & newbies often need this. experienced mid sized & shorter who easily retain their base fitness dont.

its more adjusting to the speed of the game as well as the base fitness,he has played what 1 game this year?I know how experienced Taz is,but we might need him at both ends of the field and he needs some games under his belt pronto.

Hawthorn sure did stuff this one up even though they say otherwise. Why play Buddy against GWS when just the week before he slightly hurt his hammy:confused: Stupid decision by them imo.
The Hawks board is in meltdown over the decision and some are calling for heads to roll. Nice to have the focus on their woes for a change!

I think Clarko in his arrogance tried playing mind games with Collingwood and it backfired.

Clarko knows as well as everyone else does, that Lance is the key to beating Collingwood, and seeing him subbed with a hammy against Carlton would have got all our hopes up and he knew it.

He thought, rather than increasing that hope by not playing him, he thought he'd show a strong front, much like the Prelim last year and show us all he's fine. Backfired.

I'm not happy Lance is hurt, but I'm happy he isn't playing against us. He is literally always the difference between the two sides when we play them. Be great to beat the Hawks leading into to arguably the easiest portion of our year.

Agreed, what a ridiculous decision.
Maybe if he had last w/e off the hammy may not have been so bad and would be fine by now?

Keep Taz on ice until the time comes that we play Hawthorn in the finals, IF we play Hawthorn in the finals.

Or drop Dawes and let Taz play forward.
And whos going to pitch hit in the ruck then?

:( I always look forward to watching Buddy when we play the Hawks. Say what you want about him being out, but he is just that damn good to watch in full flight (and he usually is against us). Real shame also that we can't plan for him in the regular season in preparation for the finals, where we will no doubt meet the Hawks at some stage.

Jolly rucks lone soldier.

In the backline, if Jolly can't get there, then Brown or Reid take the contest with Maxy going third man.

In the forward line, if Jolly can't get there, then Cloke or Taz take the contest with Goldsack going third man.

I actually think the blame for this should fall on Buddys shoulders. From all reports (his own mouth as well when he appeared on the couch last night), he declared himself fit and ready to go against GWS. Probably thought he could kick a bag and seal the coleman for himself on the back of a huge performance.

Cant see why he wouldve been risked though, ridiculous decision to play him

I am sure most players want to play every game but the club had to step in here. He was subbed the week before with hamstrings soreness and then they play gws. Terrible decision whatever way you look at it.

Closer to the latter than the former IMHO.
Yep, Buddy's average is over 3 goals a game, and his impact on the team would be even greater than that.

I'd say he's a 5-6 goal differential against a good team like us.
