Horses are about to get 10x worse. A big push for more prize money to be made available across the board and it can only come from one place and that’s us . 2026/2027 is make or break I feel. I can’t remember the percentages the tote is running at nowadays but I do expect it to double

Yeah have heard some rumbles. 14.5% currently win & place, 20% exotics I believe so very unlikely they could justify doubling it unless they want to decimate the pools.

Well to be perfectly fair, if the states were relying on Tote pool take outs for their prize money, they would of been racing for ribbons a long time ago.

There will be no more prize money increases any time soon for mine, Victoria is down 10% year on year for betting turnover and it would be similar/worse for every other state. The only way prize money would of been boosted was if Rosehill got sold and they pissed the proceeds of the sale away by boosting prize money artificially. Which may have dragged Vic into a prize money way for a bit longer. Luckily the sale didn't go ahead and everyone involved can now face reality.

Racing isn't as strong as it use to be, POC tax, race field fees ect ect. are being passed onto the punter with increased overrounds, and we're the main cog in the wheel that makes the show run.

I reckon when the prize money announcements are done for the 25/26 season it'll be more of the same that we seen for the season that just finished, maintaining prize money for maidens & lower bench mark racing and snipping top end races

Sorry I meant the what the tote gives to the industry. I suspect the bookies will be asked to give up more profit to sustain the sport

Interesting to hear some stories about Betr.
Made an account for my Mrs when they started and were doing the 100/1 Promos but have maybe made 1 bet with them on her account since then.
They randomly gave her $10 a couple of weeks ago and I put it on a $30/1 shot and it got up and immediately withdrew the money no problem.
I told the Mrs not to expect anymore bonuses from them in the future! Haha
