I think you could class Edwards as a game breaker too, he's certainly won us more games than johncock. However I don't think you're quite right in saying that we don't have enough, Sydney, probably the most similar team to us at the moment and the only team that manages to really compete with west coast, only really have Hall and Goodes as their gamebreakers. The whole point of their and our gameplan is that an even team effort is a lot harder to stop than the individual brilliance of a kerr or a judd.

I think at the moment it's hard to tell how many game breakers we have because we can barely field a whole team!

However, I think the beauty about our TEAM is that it is exactly that - a TEAM. These are players that play well together and for each other, and don't rely on the brilliance of a chosen few.

What happens to the other teams that DO rely soley on their "game breakers", when the game breakers are injured or retire? IMO, I'd rather have a team that expects everyone to do their bit.

Marty Mattner is a gamebreaker when played in his correct position. Fantastic wingman, created drive that can't be replicated in our side.

So where does he end up? Plodding around as a 3rd tall defender

Yes I agree, he could be if given the wing back where he belongs.

And the field marshall our glorious captain is the best of them all.

Yes, but, a game breaker is someone who only needs to stamp their authority for a couple of minutes and lift the whole team. They play their role, but can excell for a period of time. Definately needed.

No you're not. Charlie Walsh said a few weeks back that Knights didn't know how good he could be - referring to explosive power in particular. Ironically, or maybe because of, he's improved out of sight from that day on. He's now taking players on and out-running them. :thumbsu:

PS. Knights will eventually end up as good as Goodwin IMO
And also the belief structure inside Chris. He now looks more confident of his place in the game

- - Welsh is the only forward capable of kicking a match-winning bag, five or six. And we all know how well he's travelling at the moment. Can't see Bock, Perrie, McGregor kicking six and winning us a game, they're three-goal tops players, not gamebreakers.

This is so true. I remember how some, including myself, were saying our forward line is just as effective as having a super forward becuase there are so many different players, all capable of kicking 5-6, the opposition has to match up on. But this is BS. If the truth be known, Bock, Stevens, McGregor and Perrie rarely kick more than 2-3 goals, on a good day. As you said, Welsh is our only forward capable of kicking 5+ on a semi-regular basis and he is either injured or just plain lazy to rely on.

Yep, but God forbid ,we should play attacking footy. Apparently it's all about defence.

To be fair we did play attacking footy when we had a full compliment on deck, however we don't have the cattle to do this at the minute and must defend first and attack when we can.

Yes, that's what is happening due to injuries, but I still maintain that we could be playing attacking footy. I really don't like watching us kick 8 or 9 goals a week.
I would prefer to watch us attempt to play attacking footy and lose by a few goals but still kick fifteen or so.
This is not the current flavour of the Crows, so be it.

Nah. I'd rather try to win rather than attempt to look pretty. They aren't chorus girls (most of them, as far as I know:)).

Team necessities, matey. I recall games last year, and the year before, with mostly full complement of lads, where we swept down the wings in flying arcs and destroyed other sides.

How many do you need though? Macca, Edwards, Burton, Goodwin - ALL capable of doing just that.

I think that Torney really should be playing as our third tall defender. Bock, Stevens and McGregor are options also. Mattner I think is the Crows youngest capable game breaker, but he needs to be played in a more attacking position. We have been quite soft in the ruck area despite VB, so why not through him in there. He IS playing out of his game down back, and we don't need Bock, Stevens, Perrie and Welsh ALL play in the forward line, we need faster players.

Faster... explosive speed... yes. Heard this from people outside this forum too, so it must be readily apparent. Wasn't Torney injured ? Looked like I could run past him last week and that's a bad look.

The youngest of whom is Brett Burton, currently aged 29 years 8 months. Concerning?

Not for this year! And I feel we will be learning about a few more before this season is out - Porplyzia, Van Berlo, and maybe even Thommo!
