Player Type of Free Agency
Ryan Crowley	Unrestricted
Antoni Grover	Unrestricted
Luke McPharlin	Unrestricte

Talking points
Big names Matthew Pavlich, Aaron Sandilands and David Mundy are all signed to long-term contracts, meaning there shouldn't be too much stress for Freo this year.

Not sure why Luke McPharlin is unrestricté, guess he's the fancy type.

Not much to report from other clubs, except both Cloke and Goddard are up for free agency.

Unless we are a realistic chance at making Grandfinal next year by hunting them types of players, its not worth it.

We might have spare cash right now
But guys like Fyfe,Mora(if reaches potential) hill etc etc will all be wanting more money soon.
Goddard while a very good player really doesnt add much more than an in form Duffield.
Maybe a guaranteed 5 extra disposals.
The price doesnt seem worth it to me.

Now if it was for a good forward then its worth it.

I would be hunting quality tall forwards, or a midfielder.
Not worried about our defence

This will be his 10th season at Freo (traded to us in 2002)

Are you freaking kidding me - I would have Goddard in a heart beat over Duffman. Have you seen Goddard up forward - I remember a game where he kicked 3 or 4 (in a quarter) against us.

Christian prophet on a crutch

Yes hes a much better player, wasnt really comparing him just trying to say we have people there who can get the job done good enough already.
For the amount of money he would cost though its not a big enough upgrade
An at the cost of losing a young player its not worth it unless we are guaranteed to play GF with him there.

We have no key forwards other than Pav
The rest are ok but not good enough 1 on 1 or in packs.
That is where spending that kind of money would be justified.

Nope cant remember seeing Goddard play forward

Our defence is already strong enough an provides enough run an carry with good skills.
Do not need to spend big $$$ on that area.

Forwardline is our main priority If he can play there an with his close ties with Ross Lyon then sure go for it.
We desperately need tall forwards who can take congested and 1 on 1 marks.
Thats our weakest link right now, thats where i can justify spending the $$$

Our backline isnt a problem

We could get Cloke this year and Franklin next year, but we would need about 20 Woodside "Environmental/Social Ambassador" positions to open up for about $500,000 dollars each for other key players. Fyfe has a truckie license, he SHOULD be standing in front of Woodside banners giving the thumbs up and getting paid for it to supplement his income from football.

I think GWS can take Cloke as either an uncontracted signing or as a free agent, the AFL is going to pad the nest at Collingwood anyway.

Just so there is no confusion, I'm completely in favor of the club using it's connections to big mining companies to unknowingly place key players into highly paying positions of those companies.

If we are paid $8 million a year from Woodside... then if they can only sponsor us for $6 million next year but Mundy, Fyfe, Hill and Barlow are happy to play for $300,000 a year because Woodside has them as the faces of their "Reaching out to the community program" on $500,000 each, so be it.

Is it still a third party deal if Fremantle don't make any official request or conduct any organisation of it? If we let it happen, are we still liable for salary cap issues?

The name that really stands out to me is Cloke.

How many bags of cash at his front door would it take?

If we were paying Mitch Clark $500k to come, Cloke would only be on that at the Pies.

I reckon we could clear enough space to drop $800k in his lap.
Thoughts?

Cloke, while a good player doesn't really add anything more than what an in form Quinten Lynch does....

:p

Personally reckon you'd be pushing shit up hill to get Cloke - the only way he'll go interstate is to GWS who are crying out for big bodies (as opposed to midfielders) and they'll have maasive money to throw at him.

Makes it interesting this year that GWS could potentially get Cloke and Pendlebury using the Free Agency and the start-up concessions. Now that would rile the magpie army.

Once you have served 10 years and are coming out of contract for the second time since your eigth year, you are auto unrestricted.

GWS already have a potential goldmine of tall forwards in Jon Patton, Jeremy Cameron & Izzy (they have to play him somewhere..). Not sure how they'd go recruiting another established tall fwd when you consider they've probably got a handfull of other aspiring tall forwards on their list too.

Funny like i said we have no key contested marking forwards other than Pav right now.
Anthony an Bradley are best on lead.
So buying players for a spot we lack real quality is the way to go.

Just like eagles would be silly to throw big money at a forward eg Cloke when they already have Kennedy an Darling who are good enough to get the job done.
Would be much better throwing it at a key defender.

GWS would pay more than that, and if he wanted to chase the dollars he may as well go there. And TBH i'm not sure Cloke is worth $800k in the first place.
