5 ROO

CHAMPIONS!

3 Burton
2 Burns
1 Rutten

TTM

3 Burns
2 Begley
1 Rutten

Rookie

Rutten - impressive start. I thought Hentschel did well to. Both of em marked and used the ball well.

On the game itself i thought our workrate and intensity in the first and third quarters were quite good.

Freo were too good in the second and the last 15 minutes. the created plenty of speace and ran well, but geez can they butcher it!

The umpires are clearly brain dead. Took em 4 quarters to pay a push in the back and various other frees for us were ignored.

I will not accept injuries as an excuse today. We had them but our decision making and use of the ball at times was terrible!! What's wrong with Bode? Why wasnt Biglands on up forward at the start of the 4th? Hart on Pav??

Strange decisions from the Coach today. Another bloody close one!!!

mad:

THANK CHRIST FOR ROO AND MCLEOD! ****ING CHAMPIONS!

Well played Freo!

I haven't been that angry after a game for a long long time.

Especially when Grybas and Cometti went all diplomatic at the end, talking up the Dockers and mentioning 'controversial' decisions/non-decisions at the end.

POTY

5: Ricciuto - Great effort. Shafted.
4: McLeod - Great effort. Shafted.
3: Burton - Great effort. Totally shafted.
2: Burns - Great effort. Shafted.
1: Perrie - Great effort. Shafted.

BTM:

3: Ricciuto - Tried Hard. Shafted.
2: Shirley - Head over the ball - taken out. Courage. Shafted.
1: Rutten - A lot asked of him. Plenty given. Shafted.

Rookie:

1: Rutten - Showed enough to suggest we'll see him shafted many more times to come. Shafted.

BOG

5. Ricciuto (was everywhere getting plenty of the ball)
4. McLeod (got plenty of it and used it like he always does - i.e. very well)
3. Burton (love watching him play as a wingman, running tirelessly between half back and half forward, kicked some nice goals)
2. Burns (another impressive performance up forward, both crumbing and marking)
1. Rutten (provided a focal point up forward in the first half)

Sorry to copy your 5/4/3/2/1 Jerome... but I reckon you've got it pretty well spot on ;)

BTM

3. Bickley (tirelessly doing the hard work again, although his kicking at times let him down)
2. Begley (spent most of the first half on the bench but his work rate was magnificent when he came on)
1. Clarke (not at his most dominant in the ruck but I was really impressed with his second efforts when the ball went to ground)

EDIT: Rookie (I'd forgotten this category existed!)

1. Rutten (very impressive debut... question: was it 2 goals with his first two kicks or was the second goal with the third kick?)

Hentschel had his best game too, I probably would've given him the vote if not for Rutten. That was a beautiful pass that set up Rutten's first goal.

First of all I would have to say it was one of the most exciting games I have seen this year. Unfortunately, we didn't get the points.

Umpiring was very suspect at times and McPharlin (as good a player as he is) has to consider himself very lucky. He uses both hands to push his opponent in the back. He did it about half a dozen times and only got pinged once.

Nigel Smart was an absolute waste today. One of the worst games I have seen him play. He got well beaten by Longmuir. Moved forward and did **** all!!!!!! Does he know the meaning of a percentage play. On 2 occasions he had player by himself in the goal square and he opted to go for the glory. Then he misses a sitter in the last quarter:mad:

Best on Ground

5 - Mark Ricciuto (Another great game by the skipper. Led fromm the front all day. That $20 I put on him at 25/1 for the brownlow are looking good ATM)
4 - Andrew McLeod (Played well and did some magical things. Is there a better handball out of the pack than this bloke??????)
3 - Chris Ladhams (Was good today. Used the ball well)
2 - Brett Burton (Started well, was given a touch up in the 2nd Q and did OK for the rest of the game)
1 - Ronnie Burns (Did some magical things. I reckon he is a couple of games from exploding)

Best Team Man

3 - Mark Ricciuto (See above)
2 - Ken McGregor (Was quite up forward but his negating job on Longmuir was great)
1 - Ian Perrie (Was missing in the first half but came good in the 2nd)

Rookie

1 - Ben Rutten (A very good debut game from Benny. Took some really good marks and is a dead eye dick in front of goal. I am still very impressed with his ability to read the bouncing ball of the ground and give away a handball that sets up the play.)

Hentschel was also OK today. How good was that pass from the wing that got Rutten on the chest for his 1st goal??????:)

Ditto Polak.

Is it just me or does Nige seem to have a shocker once every two weeks these days? J Lo gave him a bath and Smart took a couple of good marks up forward but wasted both kicks.

1 - Ronnie Burns (Did some magical things. I reckon he is a couple of games from exploding)
Don't you say that every week? :p I reckon his form is pretty good as it is.

Arrrghh! How many more close games are we going to lose? So frustrating! :( Hopefully our luck changes come finals time...

Agree with Stiffy about Smart. When he missed that shot in the last quarter I'd had just about enough. Retire please Nigel! In the first half he looked like he didn't even know he had to man up...he looked like his mind was somewhere else! I don't understand why he wasn't dragged...

BOG
5 - Ricciuto - has been on absolute fire the past few weeks and today was no exception. Without him we would have been no chance. Well done Roo!
4 - McLeod - Did a few brilliant things, but was solid all day.
3 - Burton - Has really stepped up since returning from his ankle injury. It's good to see him playing up the ground, but also be able to slot in nicely when he goes up forward. And, he seems to be losing the title of the Crows most frustrating player.
2 - Ladhams - Tried hard all day and always seemed to be in and under the packs, getting the ball out. A much more useful game than Bode.
1 - Begley - Gave us some much needed run from half back and laid some brilliant tackles.

TTM
3 - Ricciuto
2 - Ronnie
1 - Perrie

Rookie
1 - Rutten

He pissed me off so much today, that I was throwing things at TV. He better pull his finger out.

Another crap match up was Hart on Pavlich. Pavlich gave him a bath. He only got 20 touches but all of them killed us. :(

Don't you say that every week? :p I reckon his form is pretty good as it is.
I might have said it last week, but he is just so close to having a freak game. if I keep saying it eventually I'll get it right:p

As I have mentioned before, I can't understand why Smart wasn't benched today. Thankfully he was moved off JLo, but couldn't believe how loose he was. Perhaps his brain was in the himilayas again.

Thought Hart battled hard with Pavlich, by why didn't Stinger get the job after his effort in round 1? I reckon if someone has the wood on an opposition player, then we should stick to that matchup.

After today, I've never been more confident of our 2003 premiership chances.

Today, Freo was simply better at their delivery into the forward 50, with, admittedly, a pretty potent forward line. I also thought they took more of their chances, which you have to do in a tight game.

Don't forget Ayresy leaving McGregor in his nondescript role up forward for a quarter and a half where - like against Port - he was completely ineffective while the Freo forwards such as Longmuir got plenty of it.

It's taken me until now to calm down. We blew another game that we could and should have won!! This could cost us big time come finals time!!

Best on Ground

5 - Mark Ricciuto (His disappointment after the game said it all - another great captain's knock and gave everything he had)
4 - Andrew McLeod (Mixture of a game, with some brilliant passages mixed up with some quiet periods)
3 - Chris Ladhams (Worked and ran hard and used the ball beautifully.)
2 - Brett Burton (A near match-winner in the last quarter after a good overall game plus goals.)
1 - Ronnie Burns (Always looked dangerous and was the best of the forwards)

Best Team Man

3 - Mark Ricciuto (Easily - see above)
2 - Ken McGregor (Should have been in the back lines earlier - Freo found it much harder to score with him back there)
1 - Mark Bickley(worked his arse off and was as tough as nails)

Rookie

1 - Ben Rutten (A reasonable game by Ben in his first game. Found out for pace badly when THEY had the ball)

1 - Hentschel (looked a little less apologetic in his 3rd game, and more as if he belonged. Believe me - we will be singing his praises in the years to come.
