The club is now focused on developing a player within its ranks to assist skipper Matthew Pavlich, who has been earmarked for a permanent forward role next season.

"Jack Anthony and Kepler Bradley and, depending on the match committee, probably a resting ruckman," assistant coach Peter Sumich said when asked who the preferred options were.
doesnt sound to me like we will draft kpp :thumbsd: it better work

Or maybe they're just being realistic and know that any speculative KPP taken in the rookie draft can't be expected to have much impact in 2012.

That is a big frikkin BINGO.

Jeebus, even if we'd taken Kersten, Spurr AND Tunbridge this would have been the plan.

Funnily enough, we can still get 2 of those boys.

Second worst photo of his, apart from that one Eagles fans love to use of him with the enlarged head. Makes me laugh, the media images of players sometimes in the papers - it's always the most ******* action shot

We definitely have some marking power with fyfe & Clarke rotating through CHF.

IMO just leave pav at FF, so we can get as many years of service as possible from him.

It would make sense playing Anthony as a deep forward. Then we can keep kicking it to Pav as we've always done without wasting a player down there.

Have heard that JA will be used forward this year and is training very well. It will be interesting to see how much more of a go he gets under Lyon as opposed to Harvey.

I certainly hope that we still pick up some KP Forwards in the Rookie Draft. But I think that everyone knows my opinion by now!;)

I agree with this, Anthony had some personal issues last season and was played in games where the conditions didn't suit him. If Ross can get his head right he could be a handy stay at home forward for us.

Another one here who thinks Anthony can play a leading forward role effectively. He can kick (50+ in a season before), and with the silver service that should be coming now from the mids that can take out the defender. Like those above have said - Pav needs a foil and structure, not necessarily an equal.

With pav down forward jack may benefit on a lesser defender OR he may get the better defender subsequently freeing up pav. Also note the sumich comment re: resting ruckman. Interesting times, mayne as a flanker handy!

I like the idea of Pav, Kep and Mayne.

Pav obviously takes the best defender, Kep takes the next tallest, leaving Mayne with a more suitable opponent.

Either way, having Pav forward and a fully fit Keplar/JA/Mayne/Ballas to assist will greatly lift our scoring ability. Will be great to have a quality midfield return from injury. Fingers crossed we catch a break on that front in 2012.

I think JA and Kep to an extent suffered the same breakdown in communication from Harvey that Palmer talked about in his recent interveiw on why he went to GWS. It just seemed that no matter what these guys did they were hardly given a chance and that seems to run along the same lines as what Palmer talked about.

Leaving these 2 out greatly affected the team and I still remember in the second derby Mayne getting murdered by Glass all day simply cos he was fighting out of his weight division against the oppositions number 1 KPD.

I'll be much happier next yr if it pans out something like this:
Pav- best KPD
JA/Bradley- 2nd KPD
Sandi/Clarke- 3rd tall
Fyfe- whoever they can throw at him- best medium defender
Mayne takes on the oppositions running back in a lockdown role using his tenacious tackling as his strength, yet he can also kick goals.
Ballas- gets the small defender.

Depth is still very much an issue (Walters, Mello, De Boer?) but at least it looks a hell of a lot better than the forward line we were dishing up last yr.

I don't expect us to draft any young talls this rookie draft, if we get any my guess is they'll be 'mature agers' like Busher, but I don't think our recruiters would have him on our radar anyway.

I'd be content to have Jack/Keps as a foil for Pav whilst still picking up 3-4 goals per game between them.

Has someone else taken over your body Nickos?

I simply can't see a forward line of JA,Bradley and Mayne working to be honest, someone will have to sit out or find another position. We need another crumbing forward or someone a little crafty. Ballantyne is the obvious answer but injuries are a concern and he looks good on his runs through the middle.

I suspect most of our goals will come from midfielders, you'd expect the likes of Hill/Suban/Fyfe/Mora to increase their goal tallies while Mundy/Barlow will have the odd contribution.

I personally wouldn't play Kepler because his defensive pressure is 2nd to none. So is Pav's but he's our superstar and in today's football, we can only afford one in the forward line. Good defence is good football these days.

So I'd prefer Anthony or a resting ruckman.

F: Ballantyne Anthony Mellington
HF: Mayne Pavlich Fyfe
