I for one am not happy when we have a lot of Fri pm games. We certainly lost our share of them, no doubt related to our opposition, but many Geelong people hate these games, not sure the players like them that much either. Hoping we don't get as many next year.

Yeah don't like em. Means it's on Channel 7 for one. We don't seem to play as well during night games either I don't think.

I prefer them because for me, they're a selfish convenience - I work in Melbourne CBD, so it's just a train to Jolimont (or a walk to Etihad). However, they're a nightmare for Geelong supporters based anywhere other than a 10km radius of the MCG (or Etihad), and many just don't go.

For some supporters beyond Geelong, getting to a Friday night match requires a whole- or half-day off work, which many people just can't manage.

yeah, i love em as well.

id prefer every game to be friday night game.

Im sure our major sponors do as well, its a catch 22 for Brian Cook and co. Please the sponsors who pump millions into the club by giving them maximum exposure on the biggest weekly stage at the expense of fans or please the fans (who also pump millions into the club) by asking for minimal fri night games and cop the wrath of ford and co.

i agree
night footy didnt really suit our style Negating the skill factor and makes flipping the ball around quick hands etc more risky
but we need to get better at night footy as it is the way of the future ESPECIALLY IN FINALS thanks to the broadcast deals etc

Yeah thats it, if we can win night games we cant get into grand finals.

Having said that, living 120k from Melbourne rules me out of friday night games, either that or I have to have a half day off work to get there.
Not only that, but we then have to put up with crappy delayed telecasts from channel 7.....

I loved our Friday night games. Ridiculously convenient for me to get to as I attend Uni in the Melbourne CBD and then it means I don't have to spend the rest of the weekend worrying about our game, or letting the game interfere with work and other events. But I can see why it would be a complete pain in the behind for supporters who aren't near the CBD on the Friday.

I've often thought Geelong struggles at night at the MCG. They do OK at the dome (games with the roof closed are considered 'night').

Is it the dew making precise ball handling more difficult? (odd because they are a great wet-weather team)

Is it that the MCG is basically a 'circle' not an oval (and KP very narrow), creating wide wings that the team is not set up for?

or is it just we play the better teams there on Friday nights?

(if we had beaten StK in the first final, would the team have been so convincingly beaten by Collingwood on a GF Saturday afternoon? (WB notwithstanding!))

And I sympathise with the OP and Geelong resident supporters, I'd often travel in from Sale for a Friday game, and back that night so the young fella could play his footy! (5 hours driving for a 3 hour game) (Can't do it at all now!)
