My Vote goes to Harris, Croft may still be our best defender but he could be used better in short burts or up forward instead of as a permanent FB.

Harris showed on a few occassions, particularly against Lynch, that he is capable of playing the position. Hard at the footy, quick enough to go with most opponents, not scared to try and win the ball instead of being negative all the time. Add these qualities to a years worth of senior experience, better quality big men around him in support and another solid preseason and I think we may begin to see exactly what he is capable of.

My vote is for Harris as well, although i would really like to see Morgan given a crack sometime early in the season or even in the preseason. I'd love to see him have an attempt to cement his spot. He came over here looking for opportunities; a chance to cement his spot, and although he's not in my best 22 I'd love to see him get a chance.
Crofty is our best full back, but lets face it he's in his last season. I'd like to see him wrestling at full foward at times this season.

They had many opportunities to play Croft in the backline in 03 and they refused to do so even when we didn't have a backline.
Hecne he won't be considered.

Harris was adapting but still needs a little more experience (as would Morgan) but I would try Morgan first because he has had more years in the system and didn't get a go because Paxman and Hardwick were Williams 'trust' picks.
I think he will be just a little more mobile then harris (just) but we could use both rotating if they try (opponents) to double-tall in their forward line

Agree Harris is the future. croft will come off the bench and play all over the joint say if one of the younger guys is getting beaten or we need some muscle up forward.

dont see any reason to deny harris experience this year, we will be lucky to make the finals. give the guy 22 games at FB to have abig year next year,.

Harris for me.
He is big, strong and isnt afraid to put his body on the line. Which is just what we need.

Whoever plays well in the pre-season. I think Harris and Morgan will be fighting it out but that could all change if they play Croft in the back line this season.

Dont forget we also didnt have a forward line. I think with Rawlings and a fit Bandy, Croft might not be played in the Forward line.

So im tipping Crofty.

Im with everyone who picked Brian Harris, give him first crack, and play crofty down there to help him out, croftys in his last year as kyza47 said so why not play Brian there all year next year while hes got an experienced player there to help him out. I havent seen enough of bass and morgy to say they should play there, so im going by what ive seen.

Picked Harris in the poll, but won't be shattered if 'The Pet' (Bassett, Pet ads in coaches pet) or Morgs got a crack in the Wizz Bang. Crofty will play as a pinch hitting forward and will play in defence if things are getting out of hand.

Hound Dog would be better off playing in a pocket or possibly flank. He isn't quite big enough to go with the likes of Neitz or Lynch but would play a serviceable role negating the 2nd or 3rd best forward.

First, if Croft doesn't play forward I doubt he will play at all.
(the sad term 'surplus to requirements')

Second, if coached correctly and committed in most games we can make the finals.

Third Bassett ALMOST scored a goal against Geelong but didn't kick hard enough --> He doesn't know what to do in the forward line and where the leads would go to, at the moment.

Fourth A defensive post is more then just one person. In the way footy is played at the moment its likely that 2 forwards of opponents could start in goal square. Hence Harris and Morgan both get the go!

Fifth By agreeing with me at times it would mean that you don't always accept everything you are fed in life. Thats why PR is such a big marketing tool and worth such big money!

My biggest concern about our backline this season is that I am not sure we can play Crofty,Grant and Harris all in the same backline. We prefer to have Granty on a lesser player to utilise his attacking ability and this leaves two of our most cumbersome players to take the oppositions two best tall forwards. We can get away with one as the opposition almost always has a big push and shove type to match up on but I worry that a forward with genuine height and the ability to run his opponent around will have a day out against us.Hargrave,Basset and Morgan are going to be called upon to do big jobs far more than some of us realise IMO.

Would not be suprised if Crofty played 80-20 as a forward coming on and off the bench as Darcy moves in and out of the ruck.Street could play ruck when Darcy moves forward (hopeful) and then when its time for Darcy to go back into the middle we could bring Crofty on for Street and then we still have our 3 talls up forward.

I think he will have to stay injury free and find some form or he could be gone.
Watching a few games from early in the year and Basset was alot better than I gave him credit for at the time.At the very least you know he will give you a cracker of a contest.Certainly dont see him as a forward but there is plenty of times where he will be a good match up for an opposition player. One big criticism was that he was overly keen at times and he went to ground instead of keeping his feet.Easy trap to fall into when your a struggling defender.

Agree with your points on page 1 Dog Town.
Bassett, meanwhile, is not meant to be a fullback on the giant players that play fullforward. Look at the games he played early against Geelong etc and you see he is meant to feed off of the tall big defenders to help get some run out ot defence while handling 3rd or 4th option forward. He will be in backline, but not as a tall, and not as a fullback against tall players.

Well he shouldnt be required to play on the bigger types but early last season he played on Hammill,Brown,Kingsley (at the time he was coming off a huge season) and he started on Richo in round 2.We need to avoid these sort of mismatches if we are going move forward.

Agreed, but the reason behind it was simple. No talls, refused to use Crofty (maybe he refuses to be used this way nowadays) NO GRANT!!!!

Won't happen unless we hit, yet another, DOOMSDAY SCENARIO! (I just love the Eek face)

Has to be Crofty, been our best defender for yonks.
Although he is getting on a bit, his experience should give him the nod.

No Kretiuk will have first choice of opposition FF v Werribee.
