Full Circle.... Cloke v Coughlan

When Richmond decided against taking Jason Cloke under the father/son rule instead drafting a young midfielder from West Australia called Mark Coughlan , the bulk of the footy world looked at us with many a raised eyebrow and a sly chuckle

This was enhanced 10 fold when J Cloke made an immediate impact at senior level and was being hailed as the Collingwood savior who would shore up thier backline for over a decade to come .... all this whilst Cogs was cutting his teeth in the twos interspersed with a few inglorious cracks at senior level .

Adding to this was the smug rhetoric that continued to flow forth from Collingwood about the development of the Cloke dynasty as the grandstanding press conferences continued to spew forth as they enticed the other two Cloke boys ..... we can all see Eddie and Mick flanking them with thier sponsors placard in the background ... beaming smiles ... looking like the cats whiskers ...... ahhh the world was all just beer and skittles for all and sundry at Collingwood ..... Julie and Dave clinking champagne glasses , marvelling at the state of the world and how it had all just fallen so nicely into place for them and thier boys . Premierships beckoning .

Look at what Richmond missed out on .

Whilst i don`t like to wish ill on anyone ..... as Mark Coughlan collected his second BOG in as many weeks , announcing to the football world that he is back better than ever , showing why he will be annointed as our next leader , whilst JC was kicking the dew of the grass down at Willi ( and getting a spanking by all accounts) , completely washed up . I find it hard to think of a time when i have been more happier and satisfied with a recruiting outcome at Punt rd.

We all ridicule the club for the honour role of duds that we have assembled over the years and rightfully so , but finally , thank f... , we got one right , and what a pearler .

Here`s a $64,000 question for you , what would Edward and Michael give to have Mark Coughlan standing out in the middle for Collingwood right now ?

A/ 3 Shaws and 3 Clokes
B/ Thier left nuts
C/ All the kings horses and all the kings men
D/ All of the above

Doesn't it just warm your heart to see this guy busting through packs and regaining his 2003 form?

I love seeing him in action. Pure class.

Best thing about Cogs is his professionalism. It has been stated in various media outlets (and i think even TW has come out and said it), that he is the ultimate professional in everything he does. From preparation to recovery he is always 100%.

A player like Cogs is very important to a club, because he really sets an example for the younger kids. Having this bloke set the example for players like Lids, Tambling and Meyer starts a really professional trend. One that has truly been lacking at Punt Rd for decades.

magnificent piece of work idgaf, funny how the maggots fell for the three card trick, having to take on two duds before young Trav turned up. Looks the goods the young fella who im tipping will play more games than the other two combined.

Mighty proud to have an upstanding young fella in Cogs wear the "yellow & black" he's the real deal and loves the RFC

More power to you.

Not only is the kid a great player and future leader but he is humble. Its so refreshing to see someone of such obvious talent NOT in the media either mouthing off or getting headlins for all the wrong reasons. Seem to remember "actions speak louder than words" from somewhere...maybe I heard Eddie say it...dunno

It may be interesting how all 3 picks stack up head-to-head:

Mark Coughlan vs Jason
Tim Fleming vs Cameron
Luke McGuane vs Travis

It is clear that Cogs is a mile ahead of Jason.

Funnily enough, I think that Tim Fleming may well turn out to be better than Cameron!

It will be interesting to see how the Luke vs Travis matchup goes! Weaver really rated McGuane while Travis has looked pretty good the 2 times I've seen him play.

Coughlan >>>> Than all 3 Clokes together so the excercise although fun, is a tad redundant!

I rate young Luke also, and Travis looks like a good HFF for years to come, but I have belief that Luke MGuane will turn out to be a very good KPP! Travis is no doubt the best of the three and by far and away the ugliest, sheesh what a horrible face!!!

Collingwoods recruiting needs serious questioning and should come under the microscope, The second/third round is still a valuable selection in the draft and to throw it all away for the Clokes and Shaws is a waste!

Then they recruit fat young kids for the reason no one knows..... Luke Shackelton and Billy Morrison for crying out load!!! Whoever is in charge of this - wheter it was Malthouse, Judkins or even Eddie should be sacked...(actually they should be honoured somehow for the setting up the demise of those feral pigs!! :D )

~ The last two drafts for us have been wonderful just on a side note. ~

I hate the Clokes. Especially old man David. Some of us have long memories, and back in those days leaving Punt Rd to go to Victoria park was akin to catchin your best mate in bed with your girlfriend. Or in the Clokes case, catching your best mate in bed with another bloke. The lot of em make me sick. Travie and Tarrant will make a nice couple.

all of the above, fyi coghs is a lovely bloke managed to corner him for a few minutes at coloundra a few years back, loves the tigers and wants toplay there for ever, the problem with the clokes is the missus is she not a piece of work still has notforgiven us for not putting her david in our legend team

And she is obviously not too footy smart either if she thinks David was a better CHF than Royce! Gimmie a break.

Yeah I was shattered when he left after the 1982 GF. Had 33 on my jumper.

And Raines as well. Dark days indeed.

I've never understood why.

The word on the street is that Jason wants out of Pies.

How many times do you think that Damir Cloke has rung Greg Miller trying to hit the tiges up to take on Jason in recent weeks??

But really, if he cost us F...all, would anybody entertain the thought of taking him?

I know he is a dud at Pies as he has only been developed as a third man up type player who lets his man off him all day to stay back and go the easy punch.

Is he young enough to be taught how to play backline properly or is he a total lost cause?

One good thing if he did end up in place of Shane Morrison, would be to see him play the game of his life against the Pies and clean up Cam, Trav and any number of ****s in the Pies lineup. What would Julie do then??

No thanks. Keep him away

Personally, I'm about done with the whole Cloke v Cogs thing. Let's just enjoy Cogs, allow the Clokes to do there thing elsewhere, and worry about our own backyard.

Is there any chance we can move on from it all ....

The Clokes and the RFC are always going to be a point of interest whether you like it or not GOJJ.....

For those of us old enough to remember ( yourself included ) , this goes back over twenty years .

In my lifetime , the single biggest defining point in our clubs history ( and footballs for that matter ) was Geoff Raines , Brian Taylor and David Cloke walking for a bucket load of money to the scum .

It ruined our club and a lot would say that it ruined football , at the very least it destroyed it`s innocence . The ensuing court battle that was instigated with the pure motives to try and " get Back " at Collingwood sent us into financial ruin .

I believe that we have never truelly recovered from that day in our history .

Whilst i believe that BT and Rainesy have made thier peace with the RFC , i believe that the Clokes have never , ever shown any real loyalty to us . David used us a lifeline to extend his career and since his retirement it is been shown to be quite clear where his loyalties lie .

You might say build a bridge IDGAF , and whilst i will say it is not a big enough issue to affect my sleep patterns , i will re-iterate , the Clokes and the RFC will always be an issue

Picked up a copy of inside footy at airport the other day and Geoff raines was the mal brown interview...what came out loud and clear was his deep regret at not being remembered as a one club 250 game player...he even added that on 2 occassions which I was never aware of ..RFC attempted to lure him back before the Essendon and Bris jaunts which today he wishes he had of accepted.at the time. Good story for any aspiring young gun making there way in the jungle...
