I thought that Vasco da Gama was a Portuguese navigator who led the first sea expedition to India by way of the Cape of Good Hope in the 15th century

In Englands Third Division there is a team called Rushden and Diamonds, and one of favourites for promotion to the Professional ranks this season is a team called Dagenham and Redbridge. Somehow I don't think there are named after any town or village.

I actually think Rushden and Diamonds is the result of a merger. Much like the Brisbane Lions in the AFL.
