I hope that first line wasn't an insult! because I think there is a stark contrast between spending money on a movie, and throwing it away, handing it straight to a bookie, who's intentions ARE NOT to entertain you, but to take your money. Movies are made; yes to make money obviously, but they make them to entertain. They inspire people, and are creative.

$11 for popcorn and $6.50 for a postmix coke is far more predatory than running a book at 130%.

but srsly, horse racing is entertainment, you may not find it entertaining but plenty of people do.

I think Ive already written this in the 'things I don't understand thread' But how people can call gambling a recreation is beyond me. From my perspective, I can't see how gambling holds any substance. But then again, there are people who say, why do people need to buy and play video games, its a waste of money, and money is better spent elsewhere etc.......

I'm not attacking people for gambling. We're free to do what we wish. I'm expressing my belief, and explaining why. Thats the point of this tread; to discuss your views on gambling. It was never going to be either pro gambling, or anti gambling.

Lol nah it wasn't an insult, just that majority of people "look down" on gambling like an old Christian sin and don't really know why or understand it

A bookies intention is the same as a movie producer; to provide a product that turns a profit and keeps people coming back for more

You made the perfect point about how ppl don't understand video games and how you don't understand the enjoyment of gambling, each to their own. There are plenty of things people spend money on that I quite don't understand why they do it but they've got their reasons

For me, I enjoy betting on horses for two reasons. First being I enjoy the sport, and secondly using the form information and experience it's a nice feeling picking a winner and getting a return for it

I enjoy casino gambling because the games are fun, it's about the 'sweat' and uncertainty of what can happen.

Most of all I enjoy gambling because I like the idea of not knowin how much money I'm going to have next week. I enjoy the possibility that I could have a whole lot or less than I have now. I hate the idea of a fixed income and knowing I'll only have what I'm going to earn from my fixed salary, it's all a bit predictable

I was going to ask you why don't you play for fun and not for money, but you answered that question.

You won't catch me paying exorbitant prices for food and drinks, thats for sure.
While I was referring to gambling in general, I was thinking more about sports like football, cricket, basketball etc. I do realize people do like to go out to a day at the races and enjoy the day, and have a few punts.

Thats a little bit different to the guy that sits in his chair placing bets all day though.

I play supercoach, which costs me nothing, and I have fun doing it.

Everyone has different tastes and is entertained by different things.

Put it this way, if I wasn't gambling I know I won't have enough money to buy a boat next week, or this year, or the next 5 years

But if things go my way today, I could be on the open water by noon tomorrow
