Game - '95 Premership Side V 2009 Side

Ok imagine you are coaching the current Carlton side and you have to play the 1995 premership side.

How would you go about it assuming they also have a modern professional level of fitness, skills and play a modern brand of footy?
What would your match-ups be?

Would be an awesome match to watch, Silvagni V Fevola, Waite V Kouta but could see Kernahan having a field day unless O'hAilpin stood up. If we were to win we would have to do it with pace and the small forwards would have to really fire I recon.
Are we getting that far off from a side of that quality? Time will tell.

A better comparison would be to say the 99 side which I think finished 6th in the home and away and then on the back of some inspired performances from players such as Kouta and Bradley stormed into the GF

I just recon we will have a hell of a side and could win a flag this year or the next. We won the 95 flag with an old side that perhaps got a bit slack causing a premership hangover. We were all dissapointed with the 1996 result. Oh well.

P.S. Funny thing in the 95 premership photo Browny looks pissed as and Deano is the only one wearing his medal.

I just recon at the end of they year when we win the flag we will be comparing the sides like crazy. To win a flag with a young side is the greatest thing because you can go for back to back and then some!

I think the current team would give the '95 side a close game , but then again , most of the '95 team are in their mid-forties now


In my opinion the '95 side was the greatest Carlton team ever . First team to win 20 games during the home and away rounds ; unbeaten 16 game winning streak on the way to the GF ; Sticks , SoS , Diesel , Kouta etc etc . They didn't just win games , they blew teams away . Their only 2 losses were back to back hammerings in Rounds 8 and 9 , where I can only assume they lost focus and let their guard down .
Then in the Finals , they beat a Voss led Bears team ; a Carey led Roos team ; and an Ablett led Cats team . Also noteworthy is that the Roos would go on to appear in 3 of the next 4 GF's and the Cats were appearing in their 3rd GF in 4 years . So the '95 Blues were beating quality sides .

I could see Kerna's giving Setanta a bath, Setanta losing it and kicking him up the date and Silvagni losing the plot and storming the length of the ground to remonstrate ala Hawthorn '92 (i think). Ahhh the memories.

2009 team will get there. 95 was an experienced side. 2009 team are mostly all kids. But i assure you they will get there!

maby it is, might be better to compare this side to our 1994 side (lead up side) to see if we are on the right track.

To put it in perspective remember the 1995 side was the one that was near 90pts, before a few late junk goals, ahead of a Geelong side then that matches up well to their mighty current one. That was the week after smashing North Melbourne by 10 goals in real deep mud in the PF. They would smash our current side or any other side in the current competition.

Think that answers it well.

I doubt the current team will make it into the top 6 come the years end, let along past the 2nd week of the Finals, let alone win the GF, let alone beat one of the greatest sides ever ........................

WE BEAT THE TIGERS ....................... If we go out and beat the Bulldogs by 80+ points in rd 5 then the Hawks by 80+ points in rd 6 then I may consider comparing the 2 sides, but I am more likely to bag a supermodel than we are of doing that ..............

We had a GREAT game against an AVERAGE side. Lets not get ahead of ourselves people ............ Thinking ur side could beat the 95 side is dillusional
